Bring the kids to learn, play and marvel at the world's processes in the Pushpa Gujral Science City. Discover the power of an earthquake, take a wild simulated flight through space or learn about the harmonious complexity of our human bodies.
This educational entertainment center is split into several sections, each focused on a specific scientific field of study. At 72 acres (29 hectares), the complex is one of the largest of its kind in India.
Pass through the skin to see the mind-blowing mechanisms of the human body in the Health Gallery. Watch food processed by the digestive system, see a simulated gall bladder operation and walk through a giant heart model.
Consider the future of our planet in the Climate Change Theatre or learn about renewable power in the Energy Education Park. Appropriately, the rides and restaurants here are solar-powered. Fly through alien space at Mach-1 in the 30-person flight simulator, a roller coaster-like capsule that rotates and lurches in time with the show.
Sit back in the Space Theatre and face its 75-foot (23-meter) domed screen, fitted with surround-sound speakers. This ensures complete immersion in the educational films of the month. Experience the 3-D cinema, where stars, particle models or dinosaurs threaten to leap out of the screen.
Nearby, experience the magic of a short laser show. Small kids will love the energy and movement of these blades of light, slicing through the foggy room.
After a show, feel the raw power of the planet at the earthquake simulator. Get some fresh air exploring the Dinosaur Park. Here, statues of ancient reptiles document the evolution of species from the Triassic to the Cretaceous periods. Look out for plants that also evolved during this time.
The Gujral Science City is located on Jalandhar-Kapurthala Road, just west of Jalandhar in the Punjab state. Get there via taxi or tuk-tuk, which is a three-wheeled rickshaw. The complex is open daily and charges admission.
