Quarry House- Outport Serenity at its Best!

If you are looking for peace, beauty and tranquility then the Quarry House may be just the place. Nestled in the little outport of Cobb's Arm (approximately 15 minutes to Twillingate), you can view the ocean and sunset, take a stroll through history or simply relax and enjoy the comfort of outport Newfoundland.
The space
Once it was determined that Cobb's Arm could sustain the demand for "quick lime", permanent roots just had to be established. The site would need absolute water access and deep water at the dock to ensure efficient and safe loading of the numerous schooners that would carry the quick lime to the Price's paper mill in Grand-Falls.

After surveying the shoreline it was paramount that the chosen site be fitted with a dock, storage facility, factory and headquarters to manage it all.

Quarry House was built in 1942, for the Superintendent of the Newfoundland Lime Company. It is constructed in the Cape Cod style and retains much of its original craftsman woodwork which is most predominant in the staircase.
The four bedroom house has been recently renovated with all the common amenities to make the stay enjoyable, and is just a stones throw from the water.

Unique Stay in Cobb’s Arm
We were thankful all of the beds for our party of 6. The place was clean and spacious. Appreciated the full kitchen, two bathrooms, spring water and laundry available (didn’t use). Beautiful view, saw jellyfish in the water. The decor makes you think about the past and how people used to live but also how to upcycle “old” furniture. Nice, comfortable stay, thank you!

For outport serenity, bring a tent
We see the potential of this property and some of the work that has already been done, and we are all for its unique historical feel and location, which seep in with time. But the opinion of this family of five is that this property is currently not suitable for renting. Picture this: your 9 year old son excitedly runs in first and then you hear him scream: Dad, there are flies like crazy in the bathroom. Indeed, when I joined him, I chucked about 15 dead ones. Then, my wife reacts to the incredibly musty smell from the old furniture, wonderfully antique furniture nonetheless. But we cannot open the windows because they have no screens and four of them have big cracks, not instilling a sense of security or aesthetics. Then, these problems are complemented by air conditioning units that are as loud as an aircraft and kitchen appliances that seem to be from the 1970s. They could easily be replaced by a visit to Canadian Tire. In other words, in contrast to our previous accommodations in NL, there is a distinct lack of investment, care and hygiene in this property. We don't have the space to elaborate. I have travelled all over the world (almost), and dirt, flies, window cracks, and cheap appliances are a turn off in any country, let alone one in the first world.

Seaside Heritage Luxury
Beautiful setting with ocean views all around! Watched the tides, boats, fog rolling in and out and enjoyed the heritage home and antique and luxury furnishings. A pretty quiet outport with history. Comfortable beds and all the conveniences needed in the kitchen. Nice to have the shower/tub in the upstairs bathroom and freestanding tub in quirky main floor bathroom with an old organ as a vanity. Was a great place to hang out about 20 - 30 minutes to hiking tails and museums in Twillingate area.
