Amazing place and location
1951 log home with huge fireplace, woodstove, hot tub and sauna. Beautiful views. Great location near Lassen Volcanic National Park. Remember to gas up and bring food. Only on country store nearby with limited options. Only a couple of restaurants too although I'm sure there are more options in season. Checkin is at Noon which gives you most of the day to get settled. Brandon lives nearby and makes sure everything is ready for your arrival. No wifi and limited cell service so you are truly off the grid!!

Fun Family Hangout
There is lots of space (inside and out) to spread out and either enjoy the amenities (game spaces/options, ponds, etc) or to find a quiet spot to read. Young adults and kids enjoyed it thoroughly. We had wonderful times together at the large eating areas. Just be aware that the cabin can be challenging for nonagile seniors - although we all managed!

Very cool place, but could use some maintenance and listing is a bit misleading
Overall, we had an excellent time. The cabin has a lot of character and does have a lot of very fun amenities (we especially enjoyed the pool table). The decorations were very cool and we really enjoyed the wild west cabin feeling. That being said, the claim that there is central air is misleading, as it is two window AC units that you need to leave on all the time if you are visiting during the summer (we visited in early July) along with strategic placement of fans to cool the rooms that don't have AC units. The cabin floors could also use some maintenance as some of the linoleum is chipping and some of the carpet nails are exposed (which did result in a few pokes and scrapes). I also needed to clean the back bathtub before giving my kids a bath as it was pretty obvious from the dead bugs and dust that it hadn't been cleaned in a while.

Great Quirky Cozy Awesome Getaway
The cabin is sprawling, really quirky and cool, and squeaky. It's hot tub and sauna are great! The on site maintenance person was kind and helpful, although for some reason he kept thinking we'd brought a dog with us, he was reasonable in texting about it and it worked out fine. Be prepared to keep a fire going if it's chilly out, but it's all part of the cabin experience! I loved it, my group of friends loved it, my kids LOVED it, and we'll be back!

Reconnect with my kids
It was perfect!! My three teens and I just needed to get away and reconnect. That's exactly what happened, between chilling in the hot tub and spa, roasting marshmallows by the fire outside, and going on a nice uninterrupted walk, and cooking together, it was a time I will always treasure.

Retreat in Lassen
We went to Lassen Volcanic Park in late May but couldn’t see a lot due to the extra snow this year. Luckily, we chose the right homestay and were able to entertain ourselves mostly indoors over a long weekend. In the fully equipped kitchen, we have ease in cooking for two gourmet breakfasts, one lunch and two dinners. We didn’t use the outdoor grill but could picture the fun of a barbecue feast. The jacuzzi room is clean and luxurious. The hot tub is big enough for six people and the sauna next to it is a lovely bonus. This is exactly what we need after long driving. We had a great movie night in the antique dining room with high ceiling. The bedrooms are cute and cozy. It is also very attentive of the host to provide kitchen towels in the bathrooms. It helps us to keep the bathrooms hygienic for a big group of people. The game room is a huge plus. My friends spent hours playing billiards while I have fun playing darts. There is no Wifi provided which we thought was inconvenient but it turned out we actually did not need the internet to enjoying ourselves in the mountains. I would recommend more illumination in the rooms, but I think it’s a personal style. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much. Hosts are friendly and responsive. We recommend it to any groups looking for a homestay near Lassen.

Not the most relaxing...
The listing said the home had AC, this is misleading. I never would have rented a house in the middle of summer with no AC, there are two wall units but unless you are within 10 ft of it, you don’t feel it. We had members of or party sleeping on the floor of the dining room to escape the heat upstairs. The fridge mysteriously stopped working in the middle of our stay, so we had to toss lots of our food. And on our last day, the power went out at 6:30 am, and apparently the water is pumped in so we had no running water. So no coffee, no showers, no toilets. It was a very disappointing rental. It is close to the entrance if Lassen, and the kitchen is well stocked. I wish we could have taken advantage of the pool table but it was about 90 degrees in that room. Would not recommend in summer or winter.

Wonderful roomy rustic cabin in a beautiful peaceful setting
We stayed at Lazy Z for several days right after Christmas. Our group had 11 people! Youngest of the 'kids' were 16 years old, so basically all adults. The cabin had a great set up for large groups. Very large functional kitchen with everything one could imagine needing for meal preparation. Nice large dining area. Terrific living room area with TV/DVD for movie viewing - we could all fit comfortably and could see the screen. Bedrooms and other space were able to accommodate all of our sleeping needs. Hot tub, sauna and pool table made this a fun place for all the teens/young adults (16-22)! We brought all of our own food and had a great time cooking together. We hiked around the beautiful property and also spent lots of time in Lassen Park. The managers met us there, and were extremely friendly and helpful. The place was VERY clean. The only single negative was that even through there were three bathrooms (essential for a group as large as ours) only one of two showers was functional. If this can be improved it would help for larger groups. One minor suggestion - please include instructions for how to use the DVD. Would ABSOLUTELY stay here again! Our three families had a terrific, memorable time. Such a beautiful setting. Note: there is no wireless access and limited cell service....but this was truly a blessing for all the kids. Made such a difference. LOVED IT!

Wow...so much better than in the photos. Most well stocked VRBO I have ever stayed in.
This place is amazing. So close to Lassen National Park and without question the most well stocked VRBO I have ever stayed in. And I have stayed in a LOT of VRBOs. They really did think of everything and the place is so beautifully rustic with logs harvested from the property itself. It was so comfortable with tons of space and very comfy beds. The hosts were there to meet us and show us around after a quick intro to Chester (sweetest horse ever). After they gave us a very detailed tour of all the amenities, they afforded us complete privacy. The communications working up to our stay were amazing as well. Catherine usually responded within a matter of 30 minutes or less with a detailed answer to any questions. As I mentioned before, I stay in VRBO rentals quite a bit. This one was a real stand out. They thought of absolutely everything. Next time I go back to the Lassen area, this is the only place I will stay. I wish I could give it 10 stars. The value for what you get was really great.

Mountain Idyl
Hunting lodge type of experience located in a quiet neighborhood near Mt. Lassen National Park. Wonderful property with amenities for a large group of visitors enjoying nature. Very well set up home for visiting this area of northern CA. Particularly appreciated the hot tub at the end of our long days of hiking in the Park.

Great Group Cabin Trip
We had a great time in Paynes Creek. Our group consisted of six adults, four children and two infants. There was plenty of room for all of us to sleep, sit on the couches in the living room, and sit at the kitchen table. This was my first time using VRBO and Catherine made it a breeze. She answered all of our questions and met us at the house to show us around the property. We brought in all of our food but the kitchen had everything we needed to make meals each day, plus some pantry items for the few things we forgot. The house was very clean and felt like a hotel with plenty of towels and blankets, even some toiletries for those of us who forgot something! The guys loved the man cave/game room, it had a pool table, bar, darts, and a few other games. The spa was great, and even during the heat of summer it cooled down enough at night to enjoy using it. We kept it cool for the kids to swim in and then turned it on later in the day to use as a hot spa at night. We are planning to make another trip here in the future!

Beautiful log cabin home, perched above a canyon.

It's a great place!
We had a great time at the Lazy Z ranch. There were 7 of us and there was plenty of room to spread out, the kitchen was very well equipped, it was great having a washer/dryer, everything was very clean, we enjoyed the hot tub, and the property was very private and peaceful with beautiful canyon and mountain views. And it was so convenient to Lassen Volcanic National Park where we spent the majority of our time and loved the it! The property manager, Catherine, was wonderful to work with and did everything possible ahead of time to make our stay perfect and granted us total privacy while we were there. (She even stocked the kitchen with a lot of basics so we did not have to bring so much.) We would definitely go back!

comfy home and nice hospitality
we found the house comfortable. it is fully wooden and has an antique feel. parts of it were getting renovated, but we didnt feel any discomfort. the house didn't have a/c, but the powerful-fans were pleasant. the home-theater system was nice. special mention to the hospitality of the host. she made us feel very much at home, and took care of everything - despite being busy with a wedding at her home; We even used chicken from their fridge, when we couldn't find it in nearby groceries.
