The Fishin' Hole In Valley Of The Pines Red River

The town of Red River is located in the middle of the Carson National Forest with hiking trails leading, among other places, up to Wheeler Peak, the highest point in New Mexico. The Red River Ski Area offers snow skiing and snowboarding beginning on the Thanksgiving holidays and continuing through Spring Break. Even when the natural snow is not as plentiful, the Red River Ski Area has the best snow-making in the state of New Mexico. Red River is just a fun town and is great for families. The town has wonderful shopping and galleries, nice restaurants, and even places to two-step.

The Fishin’ Hole is nestled in the Valley of the Pines just 3 miles outside of Red River. This quaint, three bedrooms, two bath cabin sleeps 8, has a full-size kitchen, wood-burning fireplace and washer and dryer. Two bedrooms each with queen beds are on the first floor, while the upstairs has another queen bed and a double in separate areas. The best “room”, however, is the new deck out back that overlooks the Red River that flows just 20 feet from the back door. The sound of the river is soothing to the soul, and the excellent fishing will provide the freshest, rainbow trout dinner around! The river is stocked in the summer months, and this location on the river is ideal for a good catch! Fishing not your thing? Art lovers will enjoy the numerous art galleries in both Red River and Taos, just 40 minutes away. Music lovers will find plenty of venues, hikers plenty of trails, and horse lovers trails to ride. Shoppers can park at one end of the town and stroll through the many, cute shops, stopping for a bite to eat at any corner. In the center of town is the Red River Community House, built in 1940. For generations, vacationers have returned to this spot for traditions all ages have loved, such as line-dancing, two stepping, guided hikes, boat-building for kids, movies on the lawn, and, best of all, endless egg tosses for all on the 4th of July.

Throughout the year you will have great fun watching the torchlight parade during ski season, enjoy Mardi Gras in the Mountains during February, the Fine Art and Wine Festival in June, the 4th of July Parade, the Hot Chili Days, Cool Mountain Nights celebration in August, Aspencade Arts & Crafts Festival in September, and Oktoberfest in October.

This cozy cabin is a little bit of heaven located high in the Rocky Mountains. It’s sure to bring joy to all ages. If you want to venture beyond Red River, Angel Fire, with a beautiful, 18-hole golf course, is about an hour away in Taos and 2 hours from Santa Fe, with its shopping, art galleries and restaurants. Come refresh you soul at the Fishin’ Hole!

Beautiful!!
The cabin was perfect for our family. View from the master bedroom was phenomenal as you could look out and see the river flowing! We even got to see the first snow of the season! My grandson’s first time to see snow!! He was so excited! My English Bulldogs thought the river was a swimming pool and decided to jump in!😅 We also enjoyed the outdoor fire pit for some yummy roasted marshmallows. Kitchen was equipped with everything you need. Spence was extremely attentive to our needs! Highly recommend this cabin. Hated to leave but hope to be back one day!

Waterfront on the river
This cabin is the perfect location. It feels secluded and out of the hustle and bustle so that you can truly relax… close enough to Red River to zoom in and out. We stayed here in August…. So snow on the roads wasn’t a factor. The river out back is so soothing. Our 3 adult sized children had plenty of room and were not piled on top of each other. Thank you, to the hosts for making their cabin available!

Family ski trip
The property was in a nice area. I feel like it would be better suited for summer time trips. The cabin itself was nice but does need some minor maintenance issues. I would stay again.

Christmas gathering
Stay was fine. Kitchen, a sharp knife would have been nice, simply sharpen what is there. Know our dish washing quality, question previous renters. Enjoyed having a fire, the quality of the fire wood left a little to be desired

Family Vacation
Beautiful area with a river running behind the house. Lots of other houses around the cabin. Cabin was basic and rustic--no dishwasher or garbage disposal. Beds and pillows are not new. Pets are allowed so cleanliness is affected. The back porch is the best spot with the sound of the rushing water!

The Fishin’ Hole
The outside setting for this house is absolutely beautiful. We spent every evening and most mornings on the back patio listening to the sounds of the little creek. Very soothing and we loved it, not to mention the hammock to relax and enjoy! The inside does need some attention to minor updates/repair though-therefore the “four” rating. 3 for inside and 5+++ for the outside.

Great House Right on the River
We loved our stay at The Fishing Hole. The house sits right next to the river - it's about 10 steps out the back door! The host, Spence, lives next door and was so kind to us, visiting when we were outside and allowing our kids to pet his dogs but also gave us space to have our time together. The house has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths on the main floor and a loft with a queen bed and a double bed. There is a wonderful porch off both floors which we used all the time to enjoy the beautiful sights and sounds of being in the mountains.. The house has the items you would need for a good stay but this cabin is on the rustic side. We really enjoyed it and hope someday we can come back!

Great place! Nice owners!
This was a great place to stay with the kids, and the owners even allowed us to bring our dog. They were very flexible as well - when we requested to move our trip a day back they were quite accommodating. When we arrived and had a couple questions, Spence was easy to reach (he called me even on my way out there) and took time to explain how the heaters worked, how to use the fireplace etc. In all, I can't think of much that could have been improved - the beautiful river is definitely the highlight! I was able to sit near the river to meditate in the mornings without having to use an "app" to play artificial river sounds, that was really cool! Even in the winter it was neat to see the river half frozen. Don't pass up this place if it's available for your stay!
