Welcome to the Rod and Reel Retreat!

Do you want an up north, cabin getaway but don’t want to sit in traffic for 3+ hours? The Rod and Reel Retreat on West Rush Lake is the place for you. Situated less than an hour from the Twin Cities, this seasonal cabin is the perfect destination for fishing, swimming, relaxation and family time.

The Rod and Reel Retreat sits in a quiet bay. You will have access to an adult kayak, two child-sized kayaks, and fishing poles. While you aren’t enjoying the water, relax in the hammock or spend quality time together around the bonfire pit. Take in the sights and sounds of nature; bald eagles, loons and hummingbirds are often spotted from the deck. The cabin has two bedrooms. One has a queen sized bed and the other has bunkbeds. There is a small 3/4 bathroom.

West Rush Lake is considered a premier fishing lake in Central Minnesota. There’s a spot on the dock for your boat with a private boat launch just steps away. Casting right off the dock is a hot spot for pan fish as well. Bring your boat and keep it at our dock during your stay!

The cabin’s recently remodeled kitchen has all the tools and cooking equipment you might need along with a gas grill on the large deck. If you’d rather go out to eat, there are two restaurants right on the lake. Cambridge is a short drive away and has a variety of restaurants and stores for your shopping needs. There’s a bowling alley, apple orchard, two golf courses and winery all within 15 minutes. Rainy day? No problem, Grand Casino Hinkley is about a half hour away. New in 2021 - there is wi-fi! So if you need to get some work done while at the lake, you have that option.

The best months to swim are June and July; in August, the bay gets slightly green depending on the day, so if you are hoping to spend a lot of time swimming off the dock, our cabin may not be the best fit for you.

Sorry, we cannot accommodate bach parties/rowdy groups. We want to respect our neighbors' space and keep that a positive relationship. Our county has a noise ordinance/curfew from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. that we need to follow so we can respect our neighbors. If this sounds like it will impact your stay, then you might want to book at a different cabin.

The Property was exactly what was listed and perfect for the quick family fishing trip. The patio right on the lake was great for night time dinners and relaxing. Fishing was good and lake is large enough to avoid the recreational boaters. Thanks for a fun extend weekend.

Perfect Getaway!
We recently returned from our 2nd stay here and had a wonderful time! The lake was absolutely perfect to swim in. Not a single bad experience! My favorite things about this cabin and why I chose to rebook it.... its just steps to the water, the very large deck with large table to dine at, the windows of the living area that overlook the lake, the large dining room table, I love that its small so that the kids can't hide, the location all around! It really is just the perfect place to disappear at for a while! Thank you!

Anuall boys fishing weekend.
The host are friendly and very responsive. The cabin was clean and well kept. Though it has a private landing just a couple places down, the tight driveway and very limited room makes it a little challenging to maneuver. We wish the weather was better, but we made the best of it. I would reccomend this place to others and stay here again myself.

The cabin was set in the perfect location where it was quiet and beautiful. The cabin was perfectly supplied with all the conveniences necessary for a trip up north. We enjoyed a perfect day on our kayaks exploring the lake. I had many questions for the hosts which they answered promptly. I would definitely recommend this place.

Beautiful views and nice clean cabin!
The view was beautiful and we really enjoyed listening to the loons. The boat launch is close to the cabin and the dock is just outside the cabin-the set up is super convenient. Also, you could just fish off the dock if you wish. There is a supply of games and DVD’s that is geared more towards family with young children. After arriving I did have one question. I sent a message to the owners and they responded within minutes. We would definitely come back!

The property is nice. The lake is green ao I wouldn't swim in it but we were able to catch a lot of sun fish right off the dock. We had to go to town and buy a knife and stuff to clean the fish and the neighbors were nice enough to help us and borrow us a basket for in the water while we fished. They were all so nice. The owners were easy to communicate with as well. The bugs were bad the 1st night but not too bad the 2nd. It was a great quiet relaxing weekend. The couple restaurants nearby are fantastic!!!!

Amazing Experience!
We had a fun, relaxing, lazy adventure that even included tipping over in the kayak! I appreciated the plethora of activities available to take advantage of...or not. Great spot being such a short drive from the Cities AND you definitely get to scratch that cabin itch and feel like you got away for the weekend. Highly recommended!!!!!

This cabin had everything we were looking for and not too far away from home. Beautiful view of the lake. The kitchen was very well stocked with the things we needed to cook. Although we didn’t make it out on the kayak it was nice to have as an option. The hosts were very helpful with any questions we had. We would definitely stay again!

Great weekend escape!
We wanted a water front view and peaceful. Thats exactly what we got. The view is awesome from both inside and out. Lots of outdoor chairs to use. Not much boat noise as it is in a no wake zone. Friendly and quiet neighbors. All the basics are there and functional. We cooked a lot and kitchen is great. Not a ton of restaurant choices but we knew that and were prepared. Bathroom and shower are a bit small but clean. It rained everyday for us so we were inside alot and bedroom got a bit humid with no AC in there and had to shut windows with rain. Lots of fans were appreciated. AC in main area was good. All in all a great experience.

This cabin is a short distance from the city. It came fully stocked with anything you might need. There is a large deck with a beautiful view of the water and wildlife. Quite location. We will visit again, soon! Thank you!

Love this place! Easy drive from the cities. Lots of board games. Kitchen well-stocked with cooking gadgets and utensils. Friendly, quiet neighbors. Good wifi, though we didn’t use it much. This was the second summer we did a trip here, and likely won’t be the last.

Perfect Weekend Getaway!
We really enjoyed our stay here! There were 6 of us, but it didn’t feel cramped at all. We loved kayaking and sitting around the campfire. It’s such a cute little cabin! I highly recommend staying here!

My spouse & teenage daughter spent a long weekend here for some much needed R&R! Reservation process was easy, as was check-in/check-out. Loved the location, just far enough from home but felt like a getaway too! Owners responded very timely to any questions we had before and during our stay. Cabin looks just like the pictures posted, it was very clean, had nice updated kitchen with everything you need and more! Love all the windows in living room looking at lake and the large deck and how close the cabin is to the water. The sunsets were beautiful from here too! They now have Wifi available which allowed me to do minimal work items while still enjoying our time away. Only con...the water by the dock was starting to get kind of weedy but with the warm weather (upper 80's+) the lake still sent a perfect breeze and we could even turn the AC off in those temps! Will keep this on the list for future!

Lovely Weekend Getaway on the Lake
We were looking for a place to bring our boat and enjoy a weekend on the lake, we found that AND more at this lovely cabin. The dock made it super convenient for us to get on the lake as much as we wanted with our toddler. The view from the cabin is gorgeous! Even from the kitchen table, we had a great view of the lake. We ate most meals outside on the deck where they have plenty of chairs and a nice patio table. They even had a small kids picnic table that our son had fun using. In the evening we had a bonfire right by the lake and watched the sunset. It was so peaceful and beautiful. The cabin had everything we needed - plenty of fans and an air conditioner for the 90 degree days, which we were very thankful for! Communication was super fast, friendly, and helpful.

Restful Getaway
My husband and I had a wonderful time. The cabin was super clean, and the location was very nice. We had everything we needed for a fun, peaceful weekend getaway. Quiet quaint fall getaway
Enjoyed a truly great two days here in this little cabin right on the lake. Everything you need for peace and privacy is here. Love the lake. Grumpy's restaurant was wonderful. Cabin is very clean and comfortable. Superior host and hostess .. very accommodating and helpful
