"Nice place to stay outside of the hustle/bustle of Funchal, close to hikes. Construction on beachfront supposed to be done by early summer according to locals. Great restaurants, bar and bakery on the street for evening options, but a bit limited for longer stays. Hot tub was really nice set up, but had wildly ranging temperatures from 32 degrees Celsius to 47 at one point, so was often not really usable. "Villa Alto is a lovely old house set high up in the hills above Ponta do Sol. With beautiful views. You will definitely need a hire car. The Staff are wonderful and work very hard to make you feel welcome. The breakfast is amazing, all freshly made from scratch. Sadly there was no dinner service available during our stay. Our room (no 9)was small and needed some TLC. The weather during our stay was stormy and the room was cold and damp. The curtains were stained and hanging from the rails....

"A great place - set in the cliff tops with amazing views. Great spa facilities, large comfortable beds, superb food, and friendly and efficient staff. The free shuttle buses/taxis to and from the airport, local walking areas and Funchal, meant we didn't have to hire a car, and there were also free e-bikes which were great.
