Conveniently located. 20 minutes from Downtown Highlands on the Atlanta side and 20 minutes from Downtown Clayton, GA. Less than 2 hours from Atlanta.

Beautiful custom home, filled with charm and antiques. Master suite has a king sized bed on the main level and a door that opens to the large back porch. Two bedrooms, each with queen sized beds and full private bathrooms are located downstairs. Also located downstairs is a pool/hockey table for the kids.

Enjoy the cool evenings beside two stone, wood burning fireplaces. Upper and lower covered decks are outfitted with rocking chairs to enjoy the view and count the Hummingbirds.

Pets are welcome. A pet fee of $75 will be charged. Go to add ons for pet stay.

We had an absolutely fabulous Christmas vacation! The home was stunning and there was plenty of space for everyone! We LOVED the wood burning fireplace, as it was so cozy and warm. The views are AMAZING...especially the sunsets! Everything was just perfect for our family Christmas vacation!

Wonderful Views is Great!
This was our second stay at this beautiful property and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a Mountain retreat. The property is very private with great views and is central to lots of great points of interest in Western North Carolina. The house is nicely furnished and the host is attentive and responsive. First rate experience!

The photos in the online listing did not do justice to this comfortable and spacious property. Each bedroom has its own bath so this property is perfect for couples. All amenities were appropriate for the property. The views and privacy are unparalleled. I look forward to booking this property again.

Christmas Getaway
Stunning views and absolute quiet. A true getaway. The home is beautiful. It’s almost 2.5 miles off the main rd, so plan ahead. The waterfalls in the area are beautiful, and the short hike to the natural bridge is worth it.

Very comfortable, well stocked, amazing views
This home was a great Thanksgiving getaway. The kitchen is stocked; home contains well thought out furnishings and amenities. The rooms are spacious and full of light. The master is on the main floor, and two bedrooms with baths below on first floor. Everyone had plenty of privacy. We would like to stay again.

Wonderful mountain getaway
We had the most enjoyable time at the beautiful Scaly Mountain home! It is a lovely home with the most gorgeous views of the mountains. It was well supplied with everything we needed to make us very comfortable. I especially liked the antique furnishings and old local photographs that gave the home a mountain lodge feel. We had access to the internet, phone service, and cable. We enjoyed hiking, fishing, and sight-seeing in the mountains. We will definitely recommend it and will come again!

Beautiful house in the mountains!
This property is a perfect getaway location - very close to shops and restaurants in Highlands, NC and Franklin, NC, and so much hiking! The house itself is beautiful and very comfortable, with a master bedroom on the main level and two bedrooms with their own bathrooms on the lower walkout level. There is a huge porch across the back of the house that has a magnificent view. Others have reviewed that a 4-wheel drive vehicle is advisable, and I agree. However, one of my sons did drive a front wheel drive Honda Accord up, but it was not easy... It's the mountains! Overall, we are looking forward to staying at Scaly Mountain again. Thank you!

Secluded Mountain Vacay away from All Phones, Media and Internet
This is a lovely home with a very nice view in a secluded neighborhood, yet not too far from Highlands downtown area. My husband and I along with our daughter and son-in-law enjoyed a peaceful week away from all use of cell phones, media, internet, and cable tv, as these are not operable at this location, only minimally sporadic WiFi at best. This bothered my husband a little, since I had emailed about this after seeing a few other comments, but, was not given any indication that none of it would work. We did try the landline phone, but we could not get it to work either. Once we arrived, I texted the management to see if I needed to reset something (?), but never got a response, probably because my text never went through. Once we realized nothing would work, we just let it go, because the time away from all of this turned out to be what we all needed. We enjoyed playing games by the fire, cooking in the well equipped kitchen, and taking a few walks in the neighborhood, along with the other great well known places in Highlands. We also enjoyed the nearby neighborhood field and barn community area. There is a good supply of books, games and family dvds, but we also brought some of our own, and since there was no cable tv, I was glad I brought a few dvds. We bundled up and even had morning coffee in the rockers on the back deck. After booking this rental and just a week prior to our arrival, I did receive a more detailed email that mentioned the internet and cell phone are inconsistent (but non-existent is more accurate - neither AT&T or Verizon worked). Again, overall, we loved the home and its layout and location, and fully enjoyed our stay. However, I do think the rental management should make it clear up front in the VRBO description regarding the internet, cable tv and phone situation. Still glad to give 5 stars overall because this will be another treasured family memory for us at Highlands, NC.

Such a magical place!
We loved this house and location. There’s waterfalls within the neighborhood and so much more sights to see just short drive from the house. Could of stayed longer. Can’t wait to go back. Will rent this house again.

Nice property
Very nice house, only issue is cell service is basically non existence (with Verizon). But it seems to be poor once you get about 5 miles out of Highlands anywhere on the Dillard Road. House was very clean, quiet and well equipped with everything you need. Good views and some some nice quick hike areas.

WONDERFUL WEEK
This property is everything and more. The location is wonderful. We enjoyed hiking to the viewing spot for the big waterfall and daily hikes around the “neighborhood “. The house is very comfortable and so pretty. The sunsets from the porch were breathtaking. The ONLY suggestion we have is a landline phone that does not need electricity. The power went out one evening, the portable phones do not work without power, cell phone service spotty as expected in the mountains. No worries, we were fine. We live on a farm in the country and used to power outages. Back on in a couple of hours. We contributed a couple of inexpensive baby gates to keep pets from downstairs and on back deck. We left them downstairs with the crate. Thank you so very much for sharing your beautiful home. We hope to return sometime soon.

This property was amazing, it has great Mountain views from the deck, it is very secluded. You don't even know there are neighbors around. Our dog loved the yard and some little trails by the house. We also hiked up the road to see the waterfall on the mountain across from us. The house has everything you need, the kitchen is stocked well. We would definitely stay here again.

The “That’s Nice” Trip

Beautiful secluded stay
We have been staying in Highlands for two weeks and moved over to this property with our two dogs. I was very nervous about leaving the Highlands area. But I really enjoyed the Highlands gap community and the house. It was very quiet, very peaceful. And very relaxing. The house was clean, in very good condition. And the view was absolutely beautiful. If they cleared a few trees they would have a multi million dollar view up there. The only downside was the Internet is pretty nonexistent. You can receive basic emails, but it’s very difficult to load webpages and impossible to download TV shows or movies. I think that should be disclosed in the listing so people are aware. At first it was very frustrating but then it was nice to disconnect in such a beautiful setting. It’s a very quiet community. I was sad to leave this place.
