The house (which takes its name from the ancient Medieval Gate nearby) is located in the characteristic and quiet little square, the heart of the historic center of Scorrano. A few meters away you will find a typical bar, a renowned wine cellar and all commercial services (municipal offices, bank, ATM, post office, newsagent, pharmacy, fruit and vegetable market, supermarkets, tobacco shops, pizzerias and restaurants); emergency room, hospital and Carabinieri station, a few hundred meters away.
About 1 km away is the "Parco Favorita" with games for children, a skatepark and an artificial wall for those wishing to try their hand at climbing. For fans of jogging, running and for those who love walking or cycling we signal the possibility of following a route very popular with the inhabitants.
Ours is a town of about seven thousand inhabitants where every year, in the days before and after July 6, the celebrations are held in honor of Santa Domenica. Famous are the illuminations that involve and decorate the entire country and the fireworks and pyromusical fires.
In the first days of August there is the "Festival of Fireworks of Pyromusical Fireworks", with shows at 21.30 and at 24.00. In the same days, among the streets of the medieval village, will be set up food and wine stands where you can taste our typical products including "lu frizzulu", a typical local bread. The narrow streets of the historic center will also be the scene of "Lumi in Aria in the Old Village", a spectacle of candles that, together with good music, will give life to a suggestive atmosphere.
Scorrano is located in the center of Salento and is ideally located for those who want to reach the most important destinations of Salento. In fact, from here you can move in all four directions:
- to the East: Litoranea Adriatica, Otranto, Laghi Alimini, Baia dei Turchi, Baia delle Orte, Punta Palascìa (the most eastern point of Italy), Torre dell'Orso, Porto Badisco, Santa Cesarea Terme, Castro, etc .;
- to the west: Ionian Sea, Gallipoli, Baia Verde, Punta Pizzo, Punta della Suina, Pescoluse, etc .;
- towards the south: Santa Maria di Leuca, Tricase, Ciolo, Andrano, etc .;
- to the north: Lecce, Porto Cesareo, Punta Prosciutto, San Cataldo, etc.
The nearest railway stations are Maglie and Muro Leccese (2 km), which are convenient for getting around the Salento peninsula. In the summer months "Salento In Bus" is also activated, a bus service that covers the whole of Salento thanks to the different lines present and designed to facilitate the movement of citizens and tourists.
For the national routes you need to reach the central station of Lecce which is about 30 km and is well connected by trains and buses.
On the other hand, about 70 km separate Scorrano from Brindisi's Brindisi Airport. It is possible to take advantage of a paid shuttle service that runs along the Lecce City Terminal - Airport and vice versa.
An important event nearby is the unmissable Notte della Taranta, held during the month of August, both in the form of the Itinerant Festival that touches all the centers of the Grecìa Salentina, and in the form of the Final Concertone of Melpignano (reachable in less than 10 minutes).
Particularly felt by the inhabitants of Terra d'Otranto is also the celebration of the Holy Martyrs of Otranto (15 Km), with the expected fireworks display organized in the sea (August 14) and visible from all points of the city that overlook the Adriatic .
Every year, on the first Sunday of September, always in the small town of Ortigia, the spectacular sea procession is held in honor of the Madonna dell'Altomare. This cult, like that of the Martyrs, is also linked to the Turkish invasion of 1480.
In the first days of August, in the nearby center of Maglie, there is the "Mercatino del Gusto", where you can taste many products of our area, from wine to craft beer, from chocolate to traditional desserts, but also meat, dairy products, oil, coffee, etc.
Lovers of Pizzica can not miss the appointment of the Night of San Rocco in Torrepaduli (about 15 Km). The festivities are held around the middle of August with lights, songs, dances and the magic of the traditional and ancient Dance of Honor and Knives.
The list is long, so we will provide a vademecum with all the most important events (festivals, fairs, patron celebrations, concerts, monuments, places of interest, etc.) so that you are always up to date on events in the area and can choose which of your tastes to satisfy.
