I booked this hotel specifically for its character since it was built is 1918, so it would've been nice to know it was under renovation/construction. The ambiance and "wow factor" was nonexistant, which was very disappointing. The trades people were wondering around and interupting business being conducted at the front desk, which was frustrating. As for the amenities at the hotel, there are none. No where to get a soda or snack, not even a vending machine. No eatery of any kind on site, except a lounge that has age restrictions, though it wasnt open anyway during our stay. So all you get for your money is a bedroom to sleep.
The folks working the front desk and valet desk didn’t have a uniform or any ID to suggest they worked there. I initially thought they were with the trades on site. Having said that, they were very kind and as helpful as they could be. I mention identifiers simply for safety. Recognizing who was a representative of the hotel compared to who was working on the renovations should've been considered for guest's trust and comfort.
As for the room, it was FREEZING! There was a horrible draft coming from the air-conditioner that was installed in the window. We turned up the heat but the bed by that wall and windows was uncomfortably cold. On that note, there were no extra blankets in the closet. Also, the doorknob on the bathroom door came out entirely and had to be repaired and though the room was cold, the fridge did NOT get cold.
