Bask in the sun as you enjoy stunning views from this beautiful historic walkway and oceanfront building, one of the German coast’s hidden gems.

The Sellin Pier is a pier like no other, with its 99 wooden steps and a design dating back to the 1900s. From here, appreciate the unique view of the Baltic Sea surrounded by sandy beaches and listen to the sounds of seagulls squawking in the distance.

Sellin Pier’s main focal point is the building that waits for you when you reach the end. Walk all the way around this building’s stunning white exterior and peek in its many windows. The symmetrical design is pleasing to the eye and two smaller structures at the entrance create a grand feeling. Today, a restaurant is housed here. Come for dinner for a relaxed yet upscale dining experience.

The first pier in Sellin was built in 1906, but damage from ice storms over the years meant that it needed to be completely torn down by 1974.

Today’s pier was built in 1997 by using historical architectural records. It now offers a marriage pavilion in addition to its restaurant. Don’t be surprised if you see a bride and groom celebrating with their friends and family, as the pier is a popular wedding location for couples from across Germany.

Descend 99 steps from the main street to the pier or use the elevator if you prefer. Take pictures of the pier from the stairway. Along its expanse you can get fantastic views of the Baltic Sea.

If you’re visiting during the summer, consider renting a beach chair just below the pier so you can relax in the sun and experience the structure from a different angle. Play a round of beach volleyball while watching the hustle and bustle on the pier.

Access to Sellin Pier is free. Drive to the pier early in the morning to find a free parking space on one of the nearby streets or use the metered parking about a 5-minute walk away. Eat dinner at the restaurant or bring a picnic and enjoy it on the beach.
