Such a cute little place, clean, simple decor with great vibe. Cramped but indoor bike parking. There was a washing machine, although it was in high demand so I had to wait for it, and it was a bit slow, but it did the trick. The onsen bath was private, which was nice, but there were only 2 of them, so I would imagine there might occasionally be a wait for that too. 5 minute walk from the bay where you could watch the ships and see the fishermen packing that morning’s catch.
This is a great value property close to Shimoda and the railway station. All rooms are slightly different in layout and are very comfortable and beautifully decorated. I booked a room with a shower for both my stays. Windows are double glazed making the rooms very quiet. There are two private onsen for the use of the guests, which are wonderful. There is no lift and my room was on the third floor. The staff spoke some English and were always very helpful. The bicycles they have for hire are excellent. I thoroughly recommend this property for vale, lactation and the facilities offered, including a small cafe and an excellent library.
The facility was well organized and pleasant. Seemed like a converted warehouse. The room was well done with tatami mat, beautiful wood doors and ceiling panels. I was travelling without a car and it was storming at night. This made it difficult to get to town for dinner. I found the Hana Cafe nearby on Google maps. It turned out to be very pleasant. My only question is: why isn’t this town more crowded with visitors? It’s lovely! Like Hawaii but with seagulls (and better price performance).
I had a great onsen experience late at night while it was storming outside. I opened both windows and let the cool air blow through the room.
Nice spacious room with great views. We loved the simple design of the room. Japanese style were perfect. Easy to use private onsen and rent bikes. Staff were friendly, very chill vibe. I find they to try the coffee due to waking up early. 7-11 coffee works , not too far away
Very clean and tidy room, comfortable beds, the owner maintained the hotel in a very good condition, you can relax yourself by their private onsen, highly recommended!!
Well kept, and really well thought out when they refurbished the place. Very clean. Location was great for accessing the harbour, walkable distance. There are quite a few parking spots too, more than I expected.
Had a really good stay. The futons were comfortable, in the room, the toilet and shower were separate. There were 2 hot spring bath rooms that can be shared with family in private on the second floor. Hotel is within walkable distance to station/bus terminal and shimoda Ropeway, and hotel is near the black ship cruise ferry station

Liked: Property conditions & facilities
Good points
-property was newly renovated
-had clean bathrooms
-had several conveniences including a self service laundry area, microwave, etc.
-very reasonably priced for the area
Points to improve
-The beddings were not freshly laundered
This is a charming ryokan-style property, pretty much 'self-serve' with minimal staffing which was perfectly fine for us but may not appeal to others. It is being gradually renovated - there is no elevator and the two onsens (public bath) are dated (but very clean and relaxing). Walking distance from most attractions in Shimoda town and about a 5 minute taxi from the train station.
Great condition, very clean, pretty convenient location (right next to a bus stop, near train station), English friendly, cute and comfortable Japanese style rooms, nice attention to details like a welcoming tea and cracker and water.
Watch out:
- the units get road noise. Earplugs are provided but if you're sensitive to this, consider another place
- shared shower means the two shower rooms on 2nd floor, if they're occupied you may need to wait to shower
- stairs only, no units on first floor
Overall I really enjoyed the place and will stay again! I booked the night before my stay and was pleasantly surprised by how nice the place is.
Free parking and close to the ferry port we needed the next morning. We had to wake up early The next morning and walk about fifteen minutes to catch our ferry to Izu Islands.
- The cafe is open only for two hours. We were hoping to get our morning coffee fix but we left earlier than the opening time.
- The facilities are clean. The Onsen was just okay but clean. The beds (futons) were the most comfortable among budget options we used during the trip.
- Happy we got the room with ensuite showers on the side of the parking lot rather than the road. The reception desk isn't always staffed.
- Might not want to bring anything heavy as there are not lifts. You'd have to drag your suitcase up flights of stairs.
- There's a surf-inspired bar about ten mins away (Rau) near Lawson.
