Few beaches in the U.S. Virgin Islands can rival the serene location and untouched splendor of this picturesque strip.

With gold sands and sparkling blue waters, Lindquist Beach is a true tropical paradise and one of the most picture-perfect coves in the Virgin Islands. Swim in the sea with schools of iridescent fish or simply lie back beneath the shade of the trees and enjoy this blissful part of the coastline.

Note the lack of development at this gorgeous beach. Over the years, several constructions were proposed for the plot but, because of objections from locals, government representatives and environmental groups, none ever went ahead. In 2006, the government purchased 21 acres (8 hectares) of the surrounding land, making it a protected natural park.

Sink your toes into the soft sand and gaze out across the idyllic coastline. Take your pick of the best sunbathing spots or sit beneath the trees that rustle quietly in the breeze. If you can tear yourself away from the view for a minute, venture into the undergrowth to look for lizards and birds.

Head to the shoreline and let the waves wash against your ankles, slowly submerging yourself in the inviting water. Swimmers on this beach can paddle away next to schools of fish without the distraction of nearby boats and Jet Skis.

For the best snorkeling, make your way out to the reefs at either end of the bay. These reefs harbor an assortment of exotic marine life including turtles and rays.

Lindquist Beach is on the eastern end of St. Thomas between Footer Point and Sapphire Beach. The beach is approximately a 20-minute drive from Charlotte Amalie and access is by an unmarked dirt road. If you are unsure which way to go, ask a local for directions. Lifeguard cover is provided. Visitors here are required to pay a small fee to enter Smith Bay Park where the beach is located.
