Enjoy swimming, surfing and live music events during the warm summer months at this quiet beach situated on Busan’s east coast.

Discover a relaxed coastal atmosphere at Songjeong Beach. Join the hordes of local families that come to relish in the beach’s calm water and gorgeous sand. Dabble in watersports, go fishing and be part of vibrant festivals. Songjeong Beach is the quieter and less commercial option to the nearby, developed resort of Haeundae Beach.

Feel the fine sand pass between your toes as you stroll around this gently curving bay. Gaze out across the blue water and look inland to see forested hills rise above the tower blocks. Find public-use changing facilities and showers. Umbrellas are also available for rent and can provide vital shade on hot days.

The shallow water is pleasant for swimming and presents a safe environment for families and young children. Small waves also make bodyboarding and surfing possible. Surf equipment rentals are offered at stands on the beach. Partake in a favorite local pastime of riding the waves with the use of an inflatable ring, which are also available to rent.

At the northern end of the bay is a tree-clad park with access to waterfront rocks. If you like to fish then this a good location from where to cast a line. At the edge of the park is a paved courtyard and the wooden Songiljeong Pavilion. This a favorite spot among Busan residents for watching spectacular sunrises and moonrises.

Visit in August when the beach turns into a venue for the concerts and festivities of the Busan Sea Festival. For dining and drinking options, walk over to the beach road and take your pick of the casual barbecue joints, coffeehouses and sushi bars. For fresh seafood, try the food stands at the harbor, on the opposite side of the park.

Get to the beach by taking a bus from Busan Station. The journey time is about 1 hour. Buses also connect with Haeundae Beach. Alternatively, visit the beach as part of Busan’s hop-on hop-off sightseeing bus tour.

Songjeong Beach is open to the public from June through August.
