Whether you love fishing, swimming, snorkelling, surfing or taking in a bit of history at the Trial Bay Gaol or Smoky Cape Lighthouse, this is a great place to escape and is the ideal family retreat by the beach perfect for year-round swimming.
South West Rocks is popular as a holiday destination for its variety of beaches including Horseshoe Bay, Main Beach, Little Bay, Gap Beach, North Smoky and Smoky Beach. Beginners and experienced surfers will both find waves to suit them or take a surf lesson with Trent Munro Surf Academy.
Fish Rock Cave, 2 km offshore, is one of the best cave dives in the country, a 125-m passage through the centre of a small island, with an amazing variety of marine life including grey nurse sharks, turtles and spotted eagle rays.
The area has a rich heritage set on cliffs high above the sea, Trial Bay Gaol was built in the 1880s to house prisoners and then as an internment camp for Germans and Austrians living in Australia during World War 11. Smoky Cape Lighthouse is one of the oldest, and tallest lighthouses in NSW.
