Restored Double Log Cabin on 400 Mountain Acres

Escape the heat of the city and suburbia for cooler fresh mountain air, mature forest canopy, historic ambiance, and a stone firepit surrounded by Adirondack chairs. Firewood provided. Coffee klatch with friends and family mornings on the wide open porch, forest bath afternoons, grill and barbeque evenings near the fire. Notice migrating and resident birds in the tree canopy. This is a unique experience in a Blue Ridge Mountains historic restored 1880's log cabin, surrounded by 400+ acres of mature forest in this robust frontier setting near Charlottesville. Enjoy a week or long weekend with family and friends in this authentic restored 1880's dogtrot "double" log cabin - joined by a great room that has folding glass walls. (There is whole house central Air Conditioning and Heating, FYI.) WIFI, WIFI Calling, and satellite TV included.

Conveniently located to Washington DC, Northern Virginia, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, Pittsburgh, Richmond, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Roanoke, Charlotte, and points north and south.

One large, log cabin - full of ambiance - has been created by relocating and joining two historic cabins from the 1800's. A glass-walled great room with stone fireplace connects the two into one house. Perfect for extended families or multiple couples to enjoy.

Popular for getaway weekends for winery tours (centrally located to area wineries), family reunions, special birthdays, wedding groups/family, guys or gals weekends away, Fall Colors, Charlottesville historic sites, UVA reunions, UVA Football Game weekends, UVA graduation weekend and events, Liberty University Graduation weekend and events, Foxfield horse races, Monticello tours, Charlottesville Film Festival, college sports and tour weekends, Frontier Culture Museum, canoeing and tubing on the James and Rivanna Rivers, music, arts, and dance festivals, Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway nearby, Country BBQ joints nearby, also historic Poplar Forest and Montpelier. Many music festivals throughout the year, and much more.

Centrally located to area wineries for tours, weddings, birthday celebrations. 6.6 miles to Pippin Hill Vineyards. 10.4 miles to Delfosse Vineyards and Winery. 14 miles to Bold Rock Cidery, Nellysford. 15 miles to Blue Mountain Brewery, Afton. 15 miles to Veritas Vineyard, Afton. 19 miles to Roseland Farm Vineyard, Crozet. 19 miles to Blenheim Vineyards. 21 miles to Jefferson Vineyards, Mountain & Vine Vineyards, Loving Cup Vineyard and Winery, Wisdom Oak Winery, King Family Vineyards, Eastwood Farm and Winery, Cunningham Creek Winery, Jefferson Vineyards, Pollak Vineyards, Septenary Winery at Seven Oaks Farms, Afton Mountain Vineyards, Flying Fox Vineyards, Gabrielle Rosse Vineyard, Tasting Room and Tap House at Mt Ida Reserve, Cardinal Point Winery, Valley Road Vineyards, Caihailian Vineyard, 12 Ridges Vineyard, Knights Gambit Vineyard, Pollak Vineyards, Hardware hills Vineyard, Hazy Mountain Vineyards and Brewery, Rockbridge Vineyard and Brewery, and MORE! Many have hired limo service for winery tours.

Music and Events Venues: John Paul Jones Arena, Jefferson Theater, Paramount Theater, Ting Pavilion - outdoor events, Fall Festivals at local farms.

Immerse yourself in the ambiance of yesteryear on 400 mountainside forested acres. Hand hewn chestnut logs, reclaimed wood floors, restored antique stoves, furniture, and claw-foot tubs, - all contribute to the historic atmosphere, while folding glass walls, spacious rooms, central heating and air conditioning, and modern appliances provide the comfort and ease of modern day life.

The Great room features a wood burning stone fireplace, TV / blue Ray DVD with satellite, internet access, WIFI IS AVAILABLE. There are folding glass doors at both ends of the great room, so your entertaining can spill out onto the front porch or the back yard. Large comfy sectional sofa, rocking chairs. A long front porch is ample for dining and perfect for swinging on the antique porch swing and relaxing in rocking chairs.

The kitchen has modern appliances; electric range/oven, microwave, two standard drip coffee makers, an antique electric refrigerator, a freezer (plus an antique wood cook stove for the adventurous sort - though best used for ambiance on a cool morning while bonding over your morning coffee). The kitchen is arranged as the early kitchens were, with the table in the middle of the room.

The house is heated and air-conditioned with an electric, forced-air, whole house system. Plus there are a wood-burning fireplace, and three wood-burning stoves for ambiance.

An outdoor fire pit provides hours of entertainment for young and youg-at-heart.

This house is made up of two log cabins, one moved up from a lower location on the same mountain, and another moved in from another property, joined together by a great room into one large historic log cabin. There are four bedrooms plus a bunk room, three full baths plus another with sink and tub only.

Two of the bedrooms and bathrooms are on the main floor. Note that all bathrooms have claw-foot tub/shower combinations, but no handicapped accessible showers. There are 6 landscape steps from the driveway up to the yard, and then two more steps into the house.

Sleeping arrangements:
Hand made period quilts cover all beds.
The arrangement is perfect for two families to occupy with semi-privacy.

Bedroom 1 (main floor) - 1 queen & 1 double bed with a working antique wood stove for ambiance
Bedroom 2 (main floor) - 1 full & 1 twin bed (direct access to bath)
Bedroom 3 (second floor) - 1 queen & 1 double bed with a working antique wood stove for ambiance
Bunk area (second floor near bedroom three) - 3 twin beds. Kids love this room with its unusual doorway
Bedroom 4 / loft (second floor over kitchen with its own stairway) - 2 double beds and a narrow couch. This is a large room with a private stair. There is no door, but it feels quite private (this is my favorite room) and there is an adjoining bathroom. Air mattresses would fit in this room for extra bed options.

Bathrooms furnished with restored cast-iron sinks and claw-foot tub showers, and modern water-saving toilets.
Bathrooms 1 & 2 - main floor
Bathroom 3 - second floor
Bathroom 4 - second floor above kitchen

Excellent place and we want to come back soon. If you like to relax, enjoy nature, get away from it all and sit in a rocker on the porch of an awesome cabin in the woods, this is the place for you. Rustic modern and wonderful.

Weekend trip
We loved the space and the property - lots of room for all the kids! The drive up the last part of the road was slightly terrifying, and the hurricane had washed out parts of the drive, so if you have a choice in vehicles bring the one with higher clearance and AWD.

Beautiful Location
This cabin was perfect for an extended family vacation. The location is remote enough to enjoy some quiet time and enjoy the surroundings, but close enough to venture out for hiking, fishing, and beer/wine tasting. The bedrooms are well situated so we weren't on top of each other. The covered porch and rocking chairs were the best part of the house!

Beautiful house
We loved the house and the property! The drive there was longer then expected, but the directions were exact. We put balloons at the end of the driveway because it's slightly hidden. The house was beautiful! Loved the bedroom to bathroom ratio, which made it perfect for several families to share. The fridge needs updated, but it still worked out. The back porch and fire pit were huge hits for everyone! We will definitely be rebooking in two years!

Excellent Get-Away
We loved the remoteness and rustic feel of the property/house! Great in accommodating our group of 12 - loved sitting on the front porch and lighting the fire pit. We were there for three nights and we did not watch the tv once - testament to how much fun we were having as a family. We also hiked and walked and visited vineyards, ciders and breweries! All in all, the property/house gave us the perfect platform and environment to have a very memorable 3 nights! Recommend without reservation, unless you want something more luxurious and a pool.

Old World Charm w/ Modern Amenities.
The cabin was perfect! All who were with me couldn't stop commenting on its charm and calm. The location is remote, but that is its charm - connecting with family and friends without distractions. The exterior is nature's beauty; and the interior is modern and accommodating without loosing the aesthetics of the primitive yesteryears. We booked this VRBO to accompany our long weekend wine tour itinerary. Excellent! We can honestly say we would not change a thing - other maybe we needed to book a longer stay.

A Hidden Gem!
We booked a two-night stay for weekend getaway. We found the cabin to be the perfect spot to take advantage of all that the region has to offer and a special vacation destination in and of itself. It's a lovely space in perfect harmony with its surroundings. Everything was as advertised and owners were communicative and easy to work with. Highly recommend!

Great experience at this modern log cabin
We had a great time with our group of three families. We found the house to be a perfect blend of new and old. It had all of the modern appliances we needed, but we also enjoyed using the woodstove and fireplace. We hiked right from the house on the grounds and our kids were outside the entire weekend. The kitchen layout is definitely from another era, so it was a bit challenging having the sink on its own while cleaning up from larger meals. We didn't mind, but it might bother others. We loved the cabinet full of sheets for all of the beds. It was so nice that we did not need to bring our own linens. All in all a great experience and we are planning to return!

Very remote cabin getaway with plenty of space for everyone. We enjoyed our trip there, kids played all over the woods and us adults sat in rockers on the porch and caught up with each other. The cabin has some amazing features, and some quirky ones too, but everything worked and we were comfortable.

We spent a few days in this warm and inviting cabin. There was plenty of room for our group of 13 (6 kids). The porch swing was the kids' favorite, and everyone enjoyed having meals outside. It is a great location for fishing, hiking, and songs around the campfire. We would most certainly come back!!!

Lovely cabin in mountains
Pretty spot perched on the side of a mountain. Quaint double-cabin with modern amenities. In between the Route 151 and Route 29 corridors in Nelson County. Enjoyed our stay. Great family time. Played games, cooked meals. The only downside is the 15 minutes to get down the mountain, though the gravel road was in good condition and the trip gorgeous each time! We traveled each day to the many restaurants, wineries, cideries and the cool Crozet Tunnel, so the distance down the mountain did not slow us down. A great spot in the mountains. We would return again for the firepit when not in July-August.

Old time charm with modern comforts, perfect for our large group!
This cabin was a perfect fit for our large group of 15. Between the roomy common areas and the porch and fire pit seating we never felt like we were on top of each other. If anyone felt the need to have their own private, quiet space then the bedrooms provided an escape as they are well separated from not only the living areas but also each other. The layout is very smart and comfortable. The youngest kids in our group loved the "secret" bedroom! The cabin is very clean and has absolutely everything you need. The overall feel is of a place that's been in the family for generations rather than a temporary vacation rental. Working wood stoves and hand-hewn logs provide authentic old mountain cabin vibes but air conditioning, satellite TV and wifi mean you certainly aren't roughing it! The location is well off the beaten path and completely private but a reasonably short drive to the Blue Ridge Pkwy/Skyline Drive for our daily hiking excursions. I highly recommend this place to outdoor lovers and those who want to get away from it all!
