The cottage is small, and a short 5 minute drive from downtown Stonigton. It's a 15 minute walk from the cottage on foot. If you're planning on mostly staying in Deer Isle, or even in the Stonington area, it's a perfect location. If you're going to be driving a lot to explore nearby-ish areas like Camden/Rockland, Acadia, or Schoodic, know that it's a half hour from the cottage to the Deer Isle bridge, so you are in for a longer drive than if you stayed on the Blue Hill Peninsula itself. We did a lot of local hikes and walks both on Deer Isle and in the Blue Hill area, and were very happy with the location.
The cottage has two small bedrooms with full or queen size beds and not a lot of moving-around room, a good-sized kitchen with better-than-usual amounts of cooking equipment/utensils, a small shower-only bathroom (with no ventilation fan, my only real complaint), and a small office with a twin sized cot, plus a small living room with a loveseat, two chairs, the TV, and a small book & video library. There is a thermostat and baseboard heating, so you're not dependent on a woodstove to heat the cottage.
The cottage was very tidy, and the washer/dryer on site worked well and we used it several times. The wifi was sluggish, but worked for what we needed. If you were going to try to do remote work while you were here, however, you might be frustrated.
There were plenty of towels, sheets & blankets-- if you are looking for everything to be brand-new, you will be disappointed, but if you are looking for a cottage that's well-stocked, clean, and comfortable, you will be fine.
We didn't use the picnic table, grill, or fire pit, and we didn't use the kayaks or porch/seating area at the downtown Stonington location, so I can't comment on those.
The owner was very responsive when we called with questions or issues. At one point there was a wind storm and she called to check in, which we appreciated. There are small grocery stores on the island for basic groceries and supplies. After Labor Day, check on business and restaurant hours, since many places are seasonal.
We would definitely stay again if we were back in the area. We have rented other Maine cottages through VRBO, and this cottage was definitely more nicely decorated, warmer on chilly days & nights, and more well-stocked than others.
