Watch an international play or classical music concert from the best seat in the Chilean Andes at this lakeside wooden theater.

The location on the edge of a lake with snow-capped volcanoes makes the Teatro del Lago a stunning theater to see a dramatic performance. The charming wooden structure comprises a concert hall, an amphitheater, an exhibition hall and several other rooms. Appreciate the impressive acoustics in this quaint wooden theater.

Attend a classical music performance in the Tronador Volcano Space – Nestlé Hall, which has a seating capacity of 1,178. Take a guided tour of the building with a docent to learn about its various sections. The amphitheater can seat 270 people. Other areas are used as foyers, rehearsal halls and conference rooms. See one of the temporary artistic displays in the exhibition room.

Enjoy the view of the snow-capped mountains across the picturesque lake. Spot Osorno Volcano, which draws comparisons with Japan’s Mount Fuji for its perfect conical shape and snowy peak. See the theater at dusk when the glow of its illuminated hall reflected in the water is particularly romantic.

Visit the theater at the end of January and beginning of February for the Frutillar Musical Weeks, when Chilean classical music concerts run all day.

Take a short break from the music for food and drinks at a local café. Browse the gifts and souvenirs at the Tienda T-Arte to purchase items with a musical or performing arts theme.

The theater was completed in 2010 after 12 years of planning and construction. Most events are held on the weekend, particularly on Saturday nights. Check the official website for up-to-date information about concert times and prices.

The Teatro del Lago is on the shore of Lake Llanquihue in the Lower Frutillar zone of the city. Find hotels, hostels and shops within a few blocks. The town hall is just 2 blocks north of the theater and the hospital is 2 blocks west.
