Revel in a day of sunbathing, swimming and watersports at a popular beach on the northern coast of Kos.
Tigaki Beach is a gorgeous stretch of coastline that extends for more than 6 miles (10 kilometers). With so much space, clear water and views across to Turkey, it is a great place to come to unwind. Sunbathe on the sand, go for a swim and try your hand at waterskiing.
Tigaki Beach is perfect for young children and inexperienced swimmers, because the water is shallow. If you want to do more than swim and wade by the shoreline, cruise the water in a paddle boat. More adventurous types can get on a windsurfing board and go searching for big waves. Beginners can take part in practice sessions at the training center on the beach.
Sun worshippers have lots of options when it comes to choosing a spot on Tigaki Beach. Even during the height of the summer season, it is never too crowded. Roll out your towel on the sand or rent a sunbed and umbrella.
Go for a long stroll along the shore, then savor some refreshments in one of the many bars, restaurants and hotels surrounding the beach. They range from intimate local haunts to luxurious resorts. Come back to them at night for drinks, an evening meal and to listen to some live music. The nightlife here is laid back rather than raucous and energetic.
Tigaki Beach is on the northern coast of Kos, about 6.8 miles (11 kilometers) from Kos Town. You can easily drive or bike from the island’s capital. Alternatively, use the frequent bus service for a journey that lasts approximately 20 minutes.
While you are in the Tigaki Beach area, take a side trip to the Asfendiou Village, just 4.3 miles (7 kilometers) to the north. The picturesque village sits on the slopes of Mount Dikaion and has a clutch of historical attractions, including old traditional houses and an 11th-century church.
