Perfect home away from home for ski holiday
Our stay could not have been better. This was our first trip to Tignes/Val d'Isere, so we did not already know the area or the village. Now that we do, I am so glad that we stayed in Tignes les Brevieres and at Paradis Blanc in particular.
The Excellent:
- The house itself is well arranged. You enter on the bottom floor (level 0) directly into a ski locker room, perfect for keeping the mess out of the rest of the house. On the same floor is one of the bedrooms, some extra distance (and thus quieter) from the main living area on floor 4. There are 2 bedrooms each on level 1 and level 2. The main living and dining area is on level 3, and there is a sixth bedroom in the upstairs attic on level 4. Each of the rooms has its own full bath with a shower.
- Although we wondered from the pictures if the main living area would be too small for our group of 10, it was not at all. In fact, it was absolutely perfect, giving everyone enough space to be in the rooms together while also not being separated.
- Tignes les Brevieres is a charming gem of a ski village. The house is up the hill from the village center, making for a lovely walk to and from dinner. The village has at least two great restaurants that we highly recommend (L'Armailly and La Sachette) and which made us feel like family each time we dined.
- The property is well-stocked with utensils, plates, glassware, etc. We were one of the first guests to stay here followng renovation/construction, so hopefully the owners will continue to maintain that high quality. We certainly appreciated it!
- Skiing straight from Tignes les Brevieres is great, with the gondolas to 1800 and les Boisses providing a jumping off point to other areas with very little extra effort required. We loved being able to ski right back to the heart of les Brevieres at the end of the day.
- Our host was absolutely fantastic, helping us with any need and checking us in/out at terrible hours.
The OK:
- The galley-style kitchen is a little small for more than one person to use at a time. We didn't eat in the house much so this wasn't an issue for us, but I could imagine it being sub-optimal if someone were trying to cook big, elaborate meals.
- The chalet is a short walk (perhaps 500 feet) from the funicular, which means you have to walk there in ski boots. It's not a long walk, and the funicular means you don't have to walk the distance up and down the road in your boots (a godsend).
The bad:
I can think of none.
