Emelle, Kingsand, near the water's edge

Experience - The Area... Often called Cornwall's forgotten corner the Rame Peninsula with its quaint villages sheltered by tidal creeks and wild coastline looking out to the Atlantic is a wonderful location for families, couples and pet owners looking for adventure, history or simply wanting to relax. Emelle is a former Pilchard Palace and school located in the heart of Cawsand a sleepy village steeped in history overlooking Plymouth Sound and featured in the period drama Mr Turner. Enjoy time wandering the narrow streets with colourfully painted cottages perched on the water's edge and stroll across to neighbouring Kingsand. These historic villages have a thriving community with shops, galleries and places to stop and enjoy some local produce, a drink or simply sit and watch the world go by. Emelle is only 30 yards from the beach, the bakery and village tea room and 50 yards from the pub and restaurant. If you are looking for lazy days by the water's edge, then you won't have to walk far! A path cut into the rocks from the cottage gives you direct access onto Girt beach which welcomes dogs all year and backed by the iconic Clock tower which was built to commemorate the coronation of King George V, there are two further beaches within 200m of the property one in Cawsand and one in Kingsand. Whitsand Bay is only five miles from the village so pack your beach gear and explore this three mile stretch of sand. Walking is a big part of a holiday in this part of Cornwall and you are not short of inland and coastal walks to choose from. Join the South West Coast Path and walk to Penlee Point with glorious views of Rame Head to the south or head north to Mount Edgcumbe Park, gardens and stately home overlooking Plymouth Sound. Only a short ferry ride by car from Torpoint is Plymouth, alternatively a foot passenger service departs from Mount Edgcumbe and during the summer months you can take the foot passenger service from Cawsand beach. Plymouth offers a wide range of shopping, entertainment and restaurants with the Theatre Royal and National Marine Aquarium a must see if you hop over the water.   Stay - The Accommodation... Approached form Garrett Street and set behind an arched stone wall, Emelle is an end of terrace period cottage with three railed steps leading down to the front door opening into a small entrance vestibule off which are two staircases connecting you to the ground, lower ground, first and second floor accommodation. Taking the carpeted staircase down which has eight steps you will find a fully tiled family bathroom W.C. with a corner shower, basin, bidet, bath and heated towel rail. A further step opens into the living room with a wooden floor where you will be drawn by the large picture window and spectacular sea and coastal views. There are two comfortable sofas arranged before the picture window with a wood burning stove to the side; this is the perfect place to unwind, relax and enjoy time together. From the living room a metal spiral staircase with twelve carpeted open tread steps lead down to the lower ground floor and a kitchen / dining room with a wooden floor. You will be drawn by two windows providing you with a wonderful picture of the sea and coastline. To one side is a modern fully fitted kitchen with electric oven and induction hob, and opposite is a smart dining table and eight chairs. From the kitchen, a glazed door with a couple of steps lead down to the shared corridor giving access down onto the beach and to an outside utility / storage room with a basic shower, basin and WC and steps up to a utility area with laundry facilities and an additional fridge / freezer; there is also room to hang wet beach gear. It is important to note that this utility / storage room is basic in its construction and decoration and as such please expect there to be some dust. From the entrance hall. a carpeted staircase with six steps leads to the first floor and two comfortably furnished bedrooms. The master bedroom takes full advantage of the sea view with a small enclosed balcony, there is a kingsize bed with an additioanl sofa bed and an en-suite shower room W.C. with a corner shower, hand basin and heated towel rail. The second bedroom has two zip link 2'6 single beds which can be put together to create a comfortable king. A further carpeted staircase with fifteen steps takes you to the second floor and a comfortably furnished attic bedroom in the eaves with a double and a single bed, dual aspect velux windows and an en-suite shower room W.C. with a shower cubicle, small basin and heated towel rail. The outside space for this cottage is the beach which is accessed from the kitchen via half a dozen steps cut into the rocks, there is also a small courtyard to the front which is open to Garrett Street. There are two car parks for you to park your car, one in Kingsand which is approximately 100m from the cottage or Cawsand car park approximately 300m from the cottage. Lovely rental, pretty village
Lovely spacious property with the best views of the bay. Clean & comfortable and in the heart of the villages. Direct personal access to the beach. Thought the spiral staircase may be an issue for the less mobile or dog, but not a problem. We ran out of toilet paper early on in our stay and no soap so had to buy locally. An extra towel per room would have been nice but overall a great experience.
