“Puntan Dos Amantes,” known in English as Two Lovers Point, is one of Guam’s most famous attractions. Stop at this dramatic area of rugged coastline during your vacation. Stand high above the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean, with a dizzying drop below, as you look out across endless blue water and clear skies. Enjoy the romantic atmosphere as you learn about the love story that earned Two Lovers Point its poetic name.
On your way to the edge of the cliff, look for the illustrated signs that relate the legend. Discover Guam’s own version of Romeo and Juliet. The story says that long ago the daughter of a Spanish nobleman was betrothed to a man picked out by her father, but she fell in love with a warrior who belonged to the Chamorro tribe, the indigenous people of Guam. The love the young Spanish woman had for the Chamorro warrior was forbidden. So that they could be together forever, the couple bound their hair together and leapt to their deaths from this cliff.
Head to the lookout station and have your camera ready to capture the astonishing views. This purpose-built platform juts out from the edge of the cliff, 370 feet (110 meters) above the waves below. Look carefully and you may be lucky enough to see some of the dolphins that frequent the nearby waters.
Take a trolley from Tumon to the park. There is an entrance fee to access Two Lovers Point. The beautiful spot has excellent facilities, including restrooms, a picnic area and even a small on-site gallery. Take advantage of the telescopes to get an even better view of the Pacific Ocean.
