At the heart of Florida’s “Treasure Coast” lies a modern, diverse city that appeals to travelers of all budgets. Vero Beach overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and is an idyllic escape from the daily grind. Play golf, fish on tranquil beaches and indulge in long walks through local flora.
For a well-rounded shopping experience, visit the boutique shopping outlets dotting Vero Beach’s downtown precinct or go to large-scale malls at the outskirts of the city. As a fishing center, Vero Beach has restaurants with some of the freshest seafood in the area. Its bars are lively throughout the weekend.
Bring clubs or rent them when you arrive to spend time on the local golf courses. Find several courses within the city limits, including Sandridge Golf Club and Vista Plantation Golf Club. While a car will help transport your clubs, for most other activities you can get around on foot or by bus or taxi.
Head to the beach to unwind after a morning of golf. Join locals on the popular South Beach or sign in at a private beach club provided by the resorts on the Treasure Coast. For quality family time, check in at the Disney Vero Beach Resort, a unique Disney resort built outside its theme parks.
Charter a boat to explore the Intracoastal Waterway, including the Indian River Lagoon that the city sits upon. When you return to the marinas, you’ll be in the perfect place to sample the local cuisine. Take a seat at a local seafood restaurant to try shellfish and the popular freshwater fish pulled from the lagoon. Go to the downtown area after dark to meet friendly locals and dance at casual nightclubs in the heart of the entertainment precinct.
Like much of Florida, Vero Beach is most popular during the winter when residents from northern states migrate toward the warmer weather. As such, the beaches can be crowded and hotel reservations are necessary at this time of year.
