Waitawheta Cottage

This cute and cosy cottage is perched near the top of the tranquil Waitawheta Valley, at the gateway into the Northern Kaimai Ranges. Enjoy river swimming and hiking right from the property or just relax on the deck and enjoy the beauty of the valley.

5 minute drive to the Hauraki Rail Trail and the award-winning Falls Retreat restaurant.

10 minutes drive into the heart of the Karangahake Gorge and Waihi and 15 minutes through to Paeroa or out to Waihi Beach.

Extensively renovated in 2017, the cottage is fully insulated (walls, ceiling and floor) and has a modern fireplace, heat transfer system and high quality panel heating - perfect for winter getaways as well as dreamy summer days on the deck.

Feel free to wander across the land, pat the donkeys and chat to the cows. Dean's Track crosses our southern paddock and Waitawheta Track starts adjacent to our property.

We live on the farm approximately 100m away but out of view and with a respect for your privacy. Please note that our driveway does pass the cottage.

Linen is provided. This includes sheets, duvets, pillows, bath towels and mat, hand towels and tea towels. Please note the second bedroom is a bunk bed configuration. Double on the bottom and single on the top.

Wifi is free and high speed, suitable for working and watching Netflix etc. The TV has a chromecast plugged in and there is a bluetooth speaker in the lounge.

Plenty of fire wood is provided and we will have the fire going for your arrival during the colder months.

A portacot and high chair are available on request.

Late check out and early check in may be possible, just ask.

A cleaning fee of $60 applies to all bookings. This is to ensure a consistently high standard for every arriving guest. We aim for our cottage to be rustic by feel but spotlessly clean, in addition all linen is commercially laundered.

For long stays of 10 days or more, the cottage is serviced every 7 days at no extra charge. This includes a basic cottage clean, fresh bed linen and removal of rubbish and recycling. This is to ensure the end of stay clean does not become unmanageable for us in the four hours allowed for between guests, and also to increase the enjoyment of your stay!

Cosy comfortable villa
We really enjoyed our stay at the property. It’s a great rural setting with friendly donkeys. And close enough to the Karangahake gorge trails. The local swimming hole is a fun refreshing adventure. The house had everything you need and is very homely. Good selection of kids games and picture books.

Awesome holiday home!
Very lovely cottage in the mountains. Fabulous views and a quite rural retreat for those wanting just nature sounds. Yet very central to Auckland, Tauranga & Coromandel Peninsula if you feel like day trips out. We enjoyed going to Waihi beach as well. Highly recommended.

Utter heaven
A really beautiful cottage, most thoughtfully kitted out & we felt we had stepped into a family home. The area is quite stunning, peaceful. We experienced very windy weather so a few car trips rather than walks. But the cottage, with its fabulous views, was a delight to spend time in. We had to change our dates & owner was most helpful. Return visit a must.

Awesome, quiet cottage!
Waitawheta Cottage would have to be the best place we have stayed in! It was clean and quiet. Absolutely anything we could have needed was there. We loved how well maintained the cottage was, and the kids loved the toys. We definitely considered never moving out again!

The sweetest bach!
We had the most wonderful stay at the cottage! Would highly recommend it to young families! The most quintessential NZ cottage too. Amongst beautiful rolling pastures with incredible views. It was so peaceful and quiet and relaxing. The boys loved the cows especially. The walk down through the property to the waterhole was seriously something special, especially coming from Australia. We will never forget our stay here. Thanks for hosting us!

A very special place
Thank you Sarah and James for a wonderful stay, the cottage is delightful. We stayed 3 nights in this charming cottage and found it warm and cozy. The bed was comfortable and the bath was so good after a long walk. Many great walks directly from the cottage. We enjoyed meeting Po and Stormy the donkeys and talking to the cows. A beautiful place to stay, very peaceful ,highly recommended and the chocolate fish were scrummy!
