My partner's Dad gave her the first Arthur Ransome Swallows and Amazons book well before she could read. So, since I was headed to England for a friend's retirement, it was natural to head to the Lakes District, where I found this complete gem of a place. It is in Windermere, which suited us perfectly. It is up the hill from the busier Bowness on Windermere, but just a five minute walk from the train station where you can connect to buses to get anywhere you want to go. Having seen the driving there, please take the buses. This cottage is in back of a house on a quiet street. The house and cottage are set in an amazing garden. The cottage was fresh and spotless, the interior build was very thoughtful and high quality. The only caveat is that if you have mobility issues, there are stairs to get from the entry down to the kitchen/bath and up to the sleeping loft. Incredibly comfortable and well stocked, there were 4 cupcakes waiting for us on arrival. We could not have done any better for setting, location, and comfort. Five stars all around.
