Taste a selection of award-winning regional wines and tour the vineyards where they came from when you visit this Margaret River institution.

Sample a range of local wines and pick up insights into how they are made at Xanadu Winery. Its vineyards are spread across 65 hectares (161 acres) of Margaret River, one of the world's great wine regions.

Xanadu was one of the first wineries in the area, planting its first vines in 1977. Since then its reputation has flourished as a producer of high-quality wines, including chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon. Other varieties grown in the winery’s vineyards include sauvignon blanc, cabernet franc, merlot, semillon, shiraz and malbec.

You don't need to be a connoisseur to appreciate Xanadu's wines. Try a selection at the tasting bar, while a member of staff gives you background information on each one. Tasting sessions take place in a rustic building that was once the studio and gallery of a prominent local artist. It looks out across part of the estate where some of the oldest vines in the region are growing.

Book a vineyard tour and private tasting session, with optional two-course lunch in the restaurant. During these visits, you will learn about the history of Xanadu and see where different grape varieties are grown. Tours are available for a maximum of 12 guests. For details and prices, visit the winery's official website.

The winery is situated about 4 kilometres (2.5 miles) from Margaret River town centre, and the same distance from the shores of the Indian Ocean. Take a taxi or drive to the estate, where on-site car parking is free.

Wine tasting at the Cellar Door is available every day, except for Christmas Day and Good Friday. Groups can book private tasting sessions, of which there are three types and can include premium and reserve wine collections.

If your visit to Xanadu Winery has given you a taste for Margaret River’s wines, tour some of the other winegrowers in the region, such as Burnside Organic Farm Wines and Vasse Felix Winery.
