Lovely villa but communication with owner difficult and extra payment demanded on arrival
A few days before our arrival, the owner sent us an email asking whether we wanted bedlinen (which would cost an unspecified amount). We replied immediately saying that we had expected bedlinen to be included. The matter was referred to Homeaway who stated that the owner was 'violating our policy'. Nothing was resolved before our arrival.
The property itself was only identified by GPS coordinates which made it extremely difficult to locate. The local agent agreed to meet us in a carpark outside Lecci and we followed him to the property.
The beds were not made up when we arrived. The agent then produced three packs of bedlinen and demanded cash for 'rental'. Each pack contained two flat sheets, two pillowcases, two bath towels and two hand towels so we were only able to cover one pillow each. One of the pillowcases had mildew stains and the towels were very thin. There were no swimming towels and no tea towels and there was no provision for a change of sheets/towels after the first week of our two week stay. As you might imagine, this did not make for a very relaxing start to our holiday.
Apart from the fact that the kettle was tiny and there were only four mugs for six people, the villa was otherwise well equipped.
At the end of our first week, on September 24th, we were disappointed (and surprised) to discover that most of the beach bars closed for the season and we could not find any boats for hire. This was a shame as it was still warm enough to wander down to the beach for a pre-breakfast swim. One of the deciding factors in booking this villa was the close proximity of the beach bars where we imagined we might enjoy a drink with our friends. The reduction in the number of amenities available in our second week was not reflected by any reduction in rental for that week. The beach itself was beautiful as were the nearby lakes where we were delighted to spot some flamingos.
Our security deposit was finally refunded more than two weeks after our return following repeated (unanswered) emails sent to the owner.
We felt that the owner had rented out his holiday home without fully considering the comfort and enjoyment of other holidaymakers. For a fraction of the price we paid for this holiday, these issues could have been resolved and our experience would have been so much more positive.
