What you can expect

Discover the vibrant cultures and history of southern Mexico with 2 days to explore the sights of Oaxaca de Juarez. From ancient Zapotec cities to colonial churches and lively local markets, you can get an in-depth look at the sights that define the region.

Day 1: After you set out from Huatulco, stop for breakfast in the village of Santa María Jalapa del Marqués and learn about the process of making mezcal, the region's famous distilled alcoholic drink. The adventure continues with a visit to the archaeological site of Mitla, the ancient Zapotec burial compound and UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its elaborate mosaics and designs.

Get to know the people of Teotitlan del Valle, home to a community of weavers who still practice the traditional craft, before you reach Oaxaca City. Here, you can appreciate the holy former monastery of Santo Domingo de Guzman, and have the rest of the day free to enjoy the architectural and cultural beauty of the city.

Day 2: Begin the second day of the tour with a visit to the ancient Zapotec city of Monte Alban. You next get some free time with a visit to the Benito Juarez Market in the heart of Oaxaca City, where you can look for some souvenirs or try out the local cuisine.

In the afternoon, visit the little adobe village of San Bartolo Coyotepec, famous for its black clay pottery.
