The Baptism Site of Jesus Christ, also known as Bethany Beyond the Jordan or Al-Maghtas, is an archaeological World Heritage Site in Jordan. The site has been venerated as a pilgrimage destination since at least the Byzantine period, and there are many ruins of churches and monasteries from that time.
