Scenic Ghost Town

The ghost town of Scenic, South Dakota, is a place filled with fascinating history and stories. Located in the Badlands National Park, it began as a small community in the 1890s when settlers arrived from Europe. The town was founded by German immigrants who dreamed of creating an idealistic utopia; however, the harsh conditions soon took their toll. As time passed, more and more people left the town until the 1970s, almost entirely abandoning it. Today, this once-thriving community is a silent reminder of the past, with several buildings still standing as a testament to its former inhabitants. The most prominent landmark is Scenic’s old schoolhouse, built in 1910.
