What you can expect

Discover Malta's natural beauty on this guided nature walking tour with a botanist. See 500-year-old trees in the Busektt Woodlands, learn about the mysterious Curt Ruts pathways in the Għar il-Kbir caves, and stand on the highest point in Malta.
Begin your day with a pickup at your Malta or Gozo hotel. Bring your own packed lunch and water or choose the lunch add-on to enjoy a packed lunch of “Ftira” (a filled traditional leavened Maltese bread), savoury snacks, and a bottle of mineral water.
Start your walking tour with a visit to Buskett Woodlands, also known as Buskett Gardens. Explore these woods with your botanist guide, spotting broadleaved deciduous woodland, native coniferous woodland, and groves of fruit trees.

Stop to admire the national tree of Malta, the Sandarac Gum tree, and some of the oldest trees found on the island, dating back at least 500 years. Enjoy scenic views of the beautiful Verdala Palace, perched on a hilltop adjoining and overlooking Buskett Gardens.

Next, head to Għar il-Kbir (the Big Cave), a complex of caves located between Buskett Gardens and Dingli Cliffs. Learn about the fascinating of these caves, dating back thousands of years, and hear about the families of recluses who lived here until 1835.
Spot the intriguing Curt Ruts, a complex network of tracks carved in the rock. The original purpose and origin of the tracks remain uncertain, but most archaeologists believe they date from around 2000 B.C.

Continue to Dingli Cliffs, near the village of Dingli on Malta’s western coast, and the highest point of the Maltese islands. Enjoy panoramic views of terraced fields, the open sea, and the island of Filfla. Stroll around to spot local plants, including wild orchids and the national plant of Malta. Stop in Dingli for a coffee or snack (not included). Finish your tour at a tiny chapel dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene, perched on the edge of the cliffs and marking the highest point on the Maltese islands before returning to your hotel.
