Overlooking the river Clyde, Dumbarton Castle was once the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Strathclyde and was witness to many historical events during its more than 800 years of history: from Viking assaults, to the place where William Wallace was imprisoned before being handed over to the English, and also a place of shelter for Mary Queen of Scots.
