What you can expect

Experience the majestic beauty and fascinating history of Northern Arizona on this full-day excursion from Sedona. Check out the volcanic fields where lava once flowed, savour a Navajo lunch at a desert trading post, and take in the grandeur of the Grand Canyon from viewpoints along the South Rim.

After you're picked up from your Sedona hotel, climb through Scenic Oak Canyon onto the Colorado Plateau, taking in sweeping views of the San Francisco Peaks, whose highest summit rises 12,633 feet (3,850 m) from the desert floor. Pass by Sunset Crater, listening as your guide describes the area's geology and the crater's most recent eruption, which is estimated to have taken place in 1064 AD.

Stroll through the rugged terrain of the San Francisco Volcanic Field before visiting the Wupatki National Monument, a Pueblo ruin that dates back to 500 AD and features an ancient ball court, the remains of 100 rooms, and an intriguing weather forecasting system. Continue on to the historic Cameron Trading Post for lunch, refuelling over authentic Navajo dishes like tacos, hot beef, and green chile stew. Browse the trading post's shop for Native American arts and crafts, admire the view of the Painted Desert, and then continue on to the Grand Canyon.

Glimpse the sheer cliffs of the Little Colorado River Gorge before reaching the National Park, where the ochre-hued landscape and dramatic canyon is enough to take your breath away. Stop at multiple viewpoints along the South Rim, listening as your guide describes the intriguing flora fauna, and geology on display in this natural wonder. Spend some time exploring on your own, and visit the lobby of the historic El Tovar Hotel and the Hopi House before your sunset-colored return ride to Sedona.
