What you can expect

The day starts off at the Maropeng visitor centre where can learn about the facts and evolution of the world and humankind in a fun, interactive way. Discover the fossils and learn how Humanity has evolved. Heading from Maropeng, we head to the Sterkfontein Caves where a permanent Hominid exhibition is displayed. Archaeologists and Palaeontologists consider this to be one of the most important archaeologist sites in the world.

The Maropeng Visitor Centre is an award-winning, world-class exhibition, focusing on the development of humans and our ancestors over the past few million years. Take a journey through time, starting with the formation of the planet and moving all the way through the evolutionary processes that culminated in the world as we know it today. See fossils, learn about how humankind was born, view stone tools that are up to one million years old, and much more. This self-guided, interactive tour allows you to take all the time you need to ponder humanity’s fascinating origin storey. *Travel time from Sandton is around 45 to 60 minutes. Travel time between Maropeng and the Sterkfontein caves will be around 10 to 15 minutes

Sterkfontein is a set of limestone caves of special interest to paleo-anthropologists located in Gauteng province, about 40 kilometres northwest of Johannesburg, South Africa in the Muldersdrift area close to the town of Krugersdorp. The archaeological sites of Swartkrans and Kromdraai are in the same area. *Travel time back to your hotel will take around 45 to 60 minutes.
