Overview

Your chauffeur collects you from the cruise terminal, the airport, or any Athens address at the time of your choice.
They keep you informed as you travel but are not licensed to guide you at the sites, for which entrance is at your own expense.
Your first stop is the less-visited Monastery of Daphni, recognised with UNESCO World Heritage status for its beautiful mosaics.
Next, travel into the centre of the city to savour an impressive range of classical and neoclassical sites, with lunch along the way.
Immerse in the ancient world at the Ancient Agora, the Roman Agora, the Acropolis, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, and the National Archaeological Museum.
See the Hellenic Parliament, the beautiful Academy of Athens, and the Panathenaic Stadium, which hosted the first modern Olympics.
Then soak up the atmosphere on Syntagma Square. Finally, your chauffeur drops you back at your address.

Activity itinerary

The Daphni Monastery was founded towards the end of the sixth century A.D. on the site of the Sanctuary of Apollo which had been desecrated by the Goths in 395. The Sanctuary of Apollo was built in the Ionic style using the thinnest and smallest columns. The columns stand on a base with an ornamental scroll at the top. A few of the columns of the temple have been preserved. One of the four Ionic columns of the ancient Sanctuary of Apollo remains at the site, as it was re-used in the Daphni Monastery. The other columns were removed and taken to London by Thomas Bruce, Earl of Elgin (of Elgin Marbles fame). The columns, column bass, and column tops from the Sanctuary of Apollo are currently in the possession of the British Museum.
