Overview

Join us on this tour departing from Évora to discover some of the region’s renowned Roman sites, including a religious space (the Roman Temple of Évora), a Roman villa (Torre de Palma), and a Roman town (Ammaia).

The Romans made their way to Portugal during the Second Punic War, in the 3rd century BC. The colonisation of the present-day Alentejo brought about the construction of several urban centres: Beja, once known as Pax Iulia, Évora as Ebora Liberalitas Iulia, and Ammaia as Civitas Ammaiensis. In addition to these urban centres, Roman colonists and those indigenous to the region lived in other settings, such as small rural settlements or extensive Roman villas.

Your tour guides are trained archaeologists and look forward to showing you some spectacular sites from Portugal's Roman past.
