The Palacio de las Cortes Españolas, the parliament of Spain, in the Plaza de las Cortes, was built on the site of the former convent of the Holy Spirit. The tender called for the construction of the current building was awarded to the architect Narciso Pascual y Colomer, and the works were completed in 1850.
