What you can expect

If today, Quebec has the lowest levels of religious practice in the Western world, why is its provincial capital is full of so many historic religious buildings? This tour shares the history of all of Quebec City’s religious communities from the glory days to the present day, when many religious buildings have been converted into theatres, public libraries, residential complex and more.

Information will be given on the historical religions and denominations of Quebec: Roman Catholic, Anglican, Presbyterian, Methodist, United Church, Baptist, Congregationalist, and Jewish.

In a typical three-hour tour, we will pass by the Quebec Seminary, Petit Séminaire, Laval University, Basilica-Cathedral Notre-Dame-de-Québec, the Episcopal Palace and Rectory, the former site of the College and Chapel of the Jesuits, Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, the former site of the Convent and Chapel of the Recollects Fathers, the Ursuline Monastery, St. Andrew’s Church, Maison de la littérature (formerly Wesley Methodist Church), Chalmers-Wesley United Church, Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, the current Chapel of the Jesuits, the former Trinity Church, Bethany House (former residence of the Nuns of the Good Shepherd), the Augustinian Monastery, the former St. Patrick’s Church, the former Chapel of the Nuns of Charity, the former St. Matthew’s Church and Cemetery and Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church.

*We will only be going inside certain sites; most will be seen from the outside. This tour can be customisable.
