What you can expect

Drive south from Quito to the Quilotoa area and visit its famous lagoon. Along the way, you'll admire the beautiful Andean landscape and stop at the Shalala viewpoint. Next, you'll visit the community viewpoint and descend to the lagoon. Once there, you'll have free time to hike and explore the area. You'll return on a path that connects the lagoon to the community viewpoint. It's an intense walk, so if you're not in good shape, simply climb on a mule that will pack you back to the viewpoint.

After a lunch break, you'll also stop at a Tigua craft workshop, famous for its colourful products, and visit the Toachi's Canon.

The full trip since pickup and back to the hotel was about 12h. The guide was informative and the driver was driving safely. Besides going to the lake we stopped in a few view points on the road, and for breakfast and launch after the hike. It was well organized. For me the down point is once getting to the lake, we could see it from a wonderful viewpoint, then going down to the lake was a bit pointless in my opinion. I would have skip that.

Quilotoa Volcano is an inexplicable experience. Be sure to include it in your travel itinerary. Our guide was Dani. She was super professional and accompanied us throughout the day, bringing a lot of information about everything. Five stars to this experience.

This was an amazing trip. Our guide, Josué, was kind, funny, and informative. We visited a Quechua settlement and a local art shop before reaching Quilotoa, where we had time to walk down and see the lake before returning. The food was excellent, the drive was beautiful, and Josué was very attentive, including when my wife felt unwell die to altitude sickness. It's a tough hike for sure, but I recommend it for anyone who is up for the challenge.
