All eyes on the sky on a visually spectacular birdwatching tour into the diverse Santa Lucia mountain range on a vintage open-air Hummer. Your driver/guide will point out the best places to spot eagles and hawks while you explore the picturesque surrounds. Eagles are among the most majestic creatures on earth and several different types make their home on the historic Santa Margarita Ranch. The 14,000-acre ranch has fertile valley soils, mountain forests, plentiful water and abundant wildlife. Together, you and your guide will take a walk on the wild side and gain an understanding of the role that these organisms play in the Ranch ecosystem. During winter and spring you can make use of scopes and binoculars provided as you travel to an area of the ranch with a known bald eagle nest. Here eaglets are reared, and you may witness the parents take flight for a hunt. During summer and fall, golden eagles, red-tailed hawks and other flighted inhabitants are in abundance on the ranch. Along the way, you’ll learn bird-watching skills that you can take to any sky near you. This tour includes a scenic 3/4 mile hike with minimal elevation gain. If you have mobility concerns, we can happily accommodate as long as weather and road conditions permit.
