Otaru Sakaimachi Street (Pass by)
Otaru Sakaimachi-dori Shopping Street is the high street of Otaru sightseeing, located close to the Otaru Canal, the most popular tourist attraction in Otaru. The streets are formed by many historical buildings built in the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods. The shopping street, with its time-travel-like atmosphere, is famous for its sweets, glass, and music boxes. You can also enjoy Otaru's typical restaurants and shopping here.
Otaru Music Box Museum (Pass by)
This store, specialising in music boxes, is housed in a building built during the Meiji era (1868-1912). At the entrance, you will be greeted by a steam clock, which serves as the symbol of the store. The store exudes a retro atmosphere and is filled with approximately 80,000 music boxes collected from various parts of the world. These music boxes come in a wide range of designs and materials, including jewellery boxes, stuffed animals, wall hangings, ceramics, and other distinctive items.

Otaru Kihin Kan (former Aoyama's villa), a registered tangible cultural property of Japan, has been known as a luxurious and magnificent mansion since its time. Masakichi Aoyama, the second generation of the Aoyama family who made a huge fortune from herring fishing, built this villa with his daughter, Masae, over a period of six and a half years. The building materials, such as cypress, zelkova, ebony, cedar, and Yakusugi, which the master carpenter collected with great care, Shunkei lacquer corridors and pillars, and stairs made of tamo wood are all luxurious in the living space.
