What you can expect

Meet your skipper at the convenient meeting point. A boat ride around Ortigia is one of the best ways to visit this beautiful place: between the sound of the wind and the intoxicating smell of the sea you will discover one of the jewels of the Sicilian tourist panorama.

Admiring Ortigia by boat will allow you to admire some of its most significant monuments and historic buildings: the Venetian Palace, the Umberto I Bridge and the Small Port, the former Bourbon Prison, the Spanish walls and the Lungomare di Levante, the Viliena Fortress, the Maniace Castle and the Fonte Aretusa.

Continue with the exploration of the sea grottos (the Capuchin Latomie, the Ear of Dionysius, the Heart-Shaped Lovers', and the Holy Spirit grottos) on the north side of Syracuse, entering the caves and admiring stalactites, stalagmites, and coral formations up close.

This excursion in Ortygia will also offer you the opportunity, in non-adverse weather conditions, to take a short stop for a dip, where the water is a deep blue.

Although the sea was quite rough- Franco was a great captain and he explained all the sights well - we found him much easier to understand than some of our other guides in Sicily😂 He spoke slower - like Canadians do- it was awesome!!

We left on time with a small group so there was lots of space to move around the boat for comfort and to take photos. Our English speaking skipper (Salvo) was super friendly and had lots of info. about the environment to share with us. The swim was wonderful.

The boat was spacious and clean. The driver/guide was really good as he explained and talked through the various viewpoints. Unfortunately the trip lasted for 50 minutes so in our opinion it was not value for money - quite expensive for a family of 3. There was the opportunity to swim off the boat but it was not in shallower water ( we would have preferred) and I assume it would have lengthened the trip. It was not what the passengers wanted so it would have been better to take us further around the island instead to make for a longer trip.

This boat tour is a fun way to discover the grottos around Siracusa! Our guide (and boat captain) was very knowledgeable. It was all a bit quick but it’s worth the price. I chose the sunset tour at 7pm and it was beautiful!
