What you can expect

Start your tour by visiting the Saint Ursus Cathedral built with limestone featuring stained glass windows and paintings which will take you back in time. The earliest Church at this site dates back to the Early Middle Ages. Here, you will see the Tower of Saint Ursus Cathedral which stands 66 metres tall. You will also visit the Jesuit Church of Solothurn which was constructed between 1680 and 1689 featuring beautiful baroque architectural style. Its north facade features a statue of the Virgin Mary.

As you continue, you will see the Fish fountain - Fountain of St. Ursus which was made by the sculptor Jacques Perroud in around 1587. Located near the Basel gate towards the Northern part of Solothurn, you will visit the gate known as Riedholzturm dating back to 1548. It is the highest point in the Old town. From here, you will head towards the historic centre of the Old town.

You will then visit the Bieltor which is located in the western part of the Old town. The tower has served as guard tower as well as a prison and dates back to the 13th century. The structure is integrated into the old city wall.

Next you will have the chance to picture yourself at the Zeitglockenturm - a Clock tower from the 12th century. It features an astronomical clock and is one of the oldest buildings in the town. The location is itself the centre of the town and is a famous landmark which must be ticked off from your bucket list.

You will walk across the “Märetplatz” square where you will see many historic buildings along the way. Finally, you will visit a historical landmark, a medieval defensive tower, the Krummturm which is one of the oldest buildings in the town which has not undergone changes.
