What you can expect

In this 2-hour activity you will learn about the history of the tile in Portugal, who brought them, what our influences are, the colours, how they are used today, we will go through various seasons and various cities. Azulejos date as far back as the 13th century, when the Arabs invaded the land that now belongs to Spain and Portugal, but they secured their foothold in Portuguese culture between the 16th and 17th centuries. The word azulejo stems from Arabic roots, meaning ‘small polished stone’. Originally they were fairly simple structures cut into geometric shapes in neutral tones, mostly blue. You will also paint your own tile and take it with you.
