After having breakfast, you will set off for a full day of ‘living like a local’ in Yangon.
First, you will transfer to the Yangon train station and board the slow moving circular train. With stunning scenery and many activities inside the train equally entertaining to the outside landscapes of traditional markets and small villages, the 20-30 minute ride is a real taste of local life.
Then, you will disembark at KyeeMyin Dine station, a area in the northwest part of Yangon. KyeeMyin Dine, which is shrouded in an urban and rural atmosphere, is home to friendly people. Here, you can take time to pay a visit to the market where you can admire colourful shopkeepers and vendors as the locals go about their daily shopping.
After that, you will transfer to downtown’s vibrant Chinatown area. You will begin your exploration at the 17th and 18th street markets where you can have a great opportunity to see rice paper making and noodle making. Next, you will continue with a walk towards Latha Street. And along the way, you can make a stop to visit a Chinese temple and local food shops to enjoy some delicacies including: roasted pork.
At midday, you can have time for lunch at a local curry shop, where you can enjoy a wide selection of delicious foods amid the friendly local atmosphere.
After having lunch, you will continue your ‘local’ exploration with a trip to Nanthida Jetty to board a ferry to cross the Yangon River to Dhala. The jetty is often buzzing with activity as there is a mini-street market, where you can buy snacks and other items to the ferry passengers. It takes 15 minutes to experience the boat ride to Dhala, which offers you stunning views of the waterways as well as a fun opportunity to interact with the curious locals since they make their way across the river.
Once reaching Dhala, you will travel by local trishaw through the town. With many trees, local areas and tranquil side streets filling the area, the scenic town is remarkably different from nearby Yangon.
Finally, you will return by boat to Yangon, and have a chance to observe daily life along the river and reflect back on your excursion to Dhala. Upon returning to the Yangon jetty, you will be transferred back to your hotel.
