Turning left at the directional sign for Paradiso was an accurate description of the destination of Marcia’s beautiful property. Seven km up a winding road past Assisi which locals call “the city” sit two villas from the 17th century, a small swimming pool, horses in the summer and 20 hectare of Umbrian heaven. Marcia, the owner was warm, welcoming and very responsive, offering us fresh eggs, herbs and greens from her garden. Marcia even brokered some wild boar from a neighboring cacciatore, when a local market came up empty handed. Needless to say, we cooked up a Thanksgiving ragu di cinghiale for the record books. Though we were there in autumn and even caught some snowfall, the beautiful view and tranquil location would make this an ideal summer home. The simple rustic aesthetic of Umbria is carried through to the inside of the villa, it was truly a joy and we can’t wait to come back.
