Explore the pretty foreshore reserve, spot turtle tracks in the sand and splash in the gentle waves at one of Bundaberg’s most popular beaches.

Bargara Beach is a family-friendly seaside destination with plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the magnificent Coral Sea views. As the home of the Bundaberg Surf Life Saving Club, Bargara Beach is a safe spot to enjoy a swim in the tropical ocean waters. Check out meandering boardwalk trails or stroll along the beach’s wide 0.4-mile (0.7-kilometer) expanse.

Wander down to the beach via paths that wind through the grassy foreshore. Pick a spot on the golden sand and get comfortable. You’ll see the wide-open vista of the Coral Sea ahead, as well as the rocky outcrops that frame the beach on either side. Go for a swim in the warm ocean and play in the waves. Low beach breaks roll into the shore. While Bargara Beach might not be a hit with surfers, it’s ideal for turtles. In the summer months, you might spot turtles clambering over the sand to their nests. Visit in the early morning to see the turtle tracks that lead directly into the ocean waters.

Bring a picnic to enjoy under the shade of the trees that line the foreshore or grab something to eat at one of the waterfront cafés. A kids’ playground is located nearby. Children will also enjoy exploring the rock flats on the edge of the beach at low tide. When the tide is high, you might see local anglers trying their luck at hooking a meal from the rocky platforms.

The beach’s safest swimming area is between the flags in front of the Surf Life Saving Club. Stingers are a hazard at this beach, so make sure you inquire about the conditions with the lifeguard on duty.

Bargara Beach is located on the northern edge of Bargara, which is a 20-minute drive to the east of Bundaberg. It is easy to reach by car and public bus. Free parking is available at the beach, which is free to visit at any time.
