Experience dramatic cliff walks and vast ocean vistas at one of Okinawa’s most exquisite natural landmarks.

Hike along the coastal paths, enjoy some of Okinawa’s finest ocean scenery and relax in the hidden coves at the head of Cape Manza.

Ryukyuan king Sho Kei came here for the first time at the beginning of the 18th century and gave Cape Manza its name. He was so inspired by the expanse of open grassland that he bestowed a title which translates literally as “the field where ten thousand men can sit.” The same vast meadow is still here today. Use this relaxing spot as a great starting point from which to explore the coast of Cape Manza.

Look down as you walk along the cliff edge. Far below you will see the brilliant colored shapes of the coral beds just beneath the surface of the water. On a sunny day you can make out schools of fish shooting through the crystal clear water. Peer along the face of the cliff and you will notice a patch of rock that resembles an elephant’s trunk reaching out into the sea.

Explore farther along the coastal path in either direction to discover more white sand bays where you can swim or sunbathe, very often with no one else around.

Stay into the evening to witness a spectacular sunset from the cape. The coast here faces northwest, providing sunsets during the summer months that are particularly stunning.

Drive an hour north from Naha to reach Cape Manza. Tour buses run from the city bus terminal at various times throughout the day.
