The Centro de Arte La Estancia is a cultural institution set in an old colonial house close to the center of Caracas. The house is on the site of a former coffee plantation that was founded in 1768. Today it hosts a rich variety of activities and events including concerts, plays, art exhibitions, lectures and yoga classes. The 3-acre (1.2-hectare) garden that surrounds the property is an ideal spot for some relaxation.
See examples of Venezuelan art in the ranch house's five exhibition halls. Sign up for a weekday yoga session and take advantage of the other classes and workshops on offer. They include painting, drawing, dance and Capoeira, a blend of martial arts and dance. Some of the activities take place in the house, while others are hosted in the garden and the courtyard stables.
Watch live musical performances at the weekend concert series and keep your kids entertained with a special program of activities on Sunday afternoons. There are plays, concerts and games for children of all ages.
One of the highlights of a visit to the Centro de Arte La Estancia is the garden. Roll out a rug and enjoy a picnic with family and friends. Relish the peaceful and attractive environs as you walk among ancient trees and plant species such as coffee and sugar cane.
The Centro de Arte La Estancia is open every day except Mondays and admission is free. For details of performances, exhibitions and workshops, visit the center’s website.
Situated in the affluent Altamira neighborhood, east of the city center, the cultural venue is easily reached by public transport. There is a bus stop just outside the main entrance and the Altamira subway station is one block away at Altamira Square. You can see the square’s tall obelisk from many parts of the city, a useful indicator of the art center’s whereabouts.
