"i was upgraded, thanks to Expedia, to a suite on the 4th (top) floor, which was amazing. When I arrived at the hotel at 1 a.m., the lobby and my suite initially felt a tad worn. Wow. i don't why I had that impression -- the hotel property and my suite were beautiful. And I loved all the history. Having a drink in the bar and looking at the pictures of illustrious former guests over the past 160 years is inspiring, if intimidating. I mean, Chekov stayed there! I had great ocean views (I would think most rooms do), tons of space, and lots of comfort. Breakfast was amazing, and well worth a nominal extra charge. I enjoyed the large salt water pool and just wandering around the hallways and grounds. There is no elevator to the 4th floor -- you need to walk up from the 3rd -- so maybe don't stay on that level if stairs are an issue. Hotel location is pretty good too. Near a number of shopping and eating options, and steps from Galle Green, which is fun to wander around. In sum, great stay at a historic hotel. . "

"This is a fancy place, the lobby reminded me of a cruise ship. There was even live music! The swimming pool is large and pristine, and you can watch a variety of birds in the river while you soak in the pool. The staff is friendly and accommodating, the facilities are first class and the dinner buffet is amazing."

"We had a lovely room at Mandarina with a small balcony overlooking the houses and gardens. Really nice watching the sunrise and lots of different birds flying around. Breakfast was very good and they had lots of vegetarian options. Special mention to Upekha at the front desk who is an absolute star. She understood our needs perfectly and is very efficient. Overalll location is good, not far from the main sites and malls. "

"Pure luxury and it was fantastic! We were upgraded to an apartment and it was so fabulous! Excellent attention to detail and a staff who went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. Only regret is that we weren't able to stay longer. But we will come back!"
