"Great stay for one night in the half term break. The guy who checked us in was great, saw my struggle with the vast amount of stairs (i have a dodgy knee) he moved us to a first floor room instead of second floor! Room was clean and tidy, seemed to be newly decorated with new furniture! Great view across the sea, and even though it was on the front the noise from traffic wasn't too bad. Just a few things that could do with a little look in to are the curtains, don't hang properly and let light in! The shower is scalding hot and takes a minute to sort it whilst getting roasted! Kettle should be emptied between guests and the most important is have a mattress protector and decent pillows on the bed. Food in the bar below the rooms was great, no issue there at all! For £81 it was great value!"

"Excellent Period property. As an older building we were unsure what to expect but it’s immaculate throughout. Staff were incredibly friendly and we were delighted to be checked in 3 hours prior to the arranged time. Couldn’t be more conveniently located a minute walk from the castle and the Main Street where all the shops, bars and restaurants are. They don’t have onsite parking but there is a very safe pay and display car park 3 minutes walk away which was only £14 for 24 hours. That’s much cheaper than any other city hotel I’ve ever been to. We will be back. We really enjoyed our stay and the city. "

" We booked the Pines for 3 nights and we were both pleasantly surprised, it's a gem. The lodges are set around a tranquil lake and are easily accessible from the M6. The lodge was very clean and very well equipped, comfortable beds, quality bedding and towels and central heating. The staff were really friendly and informative. The bar area is relaxing and inviting, I cannot really comment on the quality of the food at the restaurant as the lodges are geared for self catering with extensive equipment, such as, a dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, toaster, everything you need is provided...so we didn't eat in the restaurant but did notice the menu prices seemed expensive. Obviously been so close to major roads we expected some noise from traffic, but it was minimal and the lodges are double glazed. We really enjoyed our stay😊 I'd definitely recommend giving the Pines a visit."

"Staff were amazing, room was beautiful and very well kept. Would only have to comment on the light shining through the bathroom window all night from the storage area outside, and the shower cubicle wasn't very clean (moldy grout, mold on shower fittings), but the room itself was very modern and warm. We stayed in room 9, which was dog friendly. It was located on the ground floor, right near the entrance to the pub, I was worried we would be able to hear everything going on but I can't say that we were disturbed by any of the other guests walking past the room at all! Food is VERY reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend. "

"Absolutely wonderful hotel. Full of Victorian charm. It has been renovated to a high standard but its kept all its victorian features. Staff are brilliant and made our stay very enjoyable and memorable. Highly recommended "
